Essential Book for Working or Aspiring Directors

The Film Director's Intuition accomplishes a rare feat in laying out a systematic approach to letting inspiration strike. With a mix of concrete examples, and strong, useful metaphors, the author lays out methods of structuring your process to allow the freedom and play that can produce emotional through lines to drive your performances. This book is about learning to trust your gut, and to enable your actors to trust theirs. It's an absolute must-read for directors, along with the author's companion book, Directing Actors. They are particularly compelling for being read by the author.

I'd also strongly recommend it to actors to aid their process.

Good Enough

It's a solid book that rehashes some of the points made in Directing Actors and adds a level of depth to the discussion, but it doesn't feel quite as revolutionarily necessary as the former title. Still worth reading for the curious, nonetheless.

Wonderful Expository Learning!

It’s so wonderful to learn the rudiments of directing actors as a craft and an art form that invites novitiates to try it an demystify the acting process. The teachings were practical, humane and positively encouraging to those who are beginners of the trade. What a great influencer of the common good, both for directors and actors!
