About this listen

The casting director for Chicago, Pippin, Becket, Gypsy, The Graduate, The Sound of Music, and Jesus Christ Superstar tells you how you can find your dream role!

Absolutely everything an actor needs to know to get the part is here: What to do that moment before; how to use humour; how to create mystery; how to develop a distinct style; and how to evaluate the place, the relationships, and the competition. In fact, Audition is a necessary guide to dealing with all the "auditions" we face in life. This is the bible on the subject.

Audition is deftly narrated by John Malone.

My most recommended 'In-and-out of context' book

I have continued to read this book multiple times throughout my life and many times in between Make no mistake, the lessons are solid for any becoming performer. Yet, to my personal reflection, I find this book shares important beliefs and insights for those that drive imagination on whatever stage they find themselves on. Though somewhat dated in reference to plays and performances from the time period, the lessons are just as important.

great book for the audition process!

Wish I would've read this sooner. Audio has some spots where half of the word is dropped but still worth the listen!

Excellent book on acting in general; some minor audio issues

This book is excellent - not just about auditioning but in general about understanding human nature and how to translate that to acting. Chocked full of example conversations between student and teacher dissecting a scene, which I find very useful.

There is an issue with the audio quality where the recording the last word of a sentence is sometimes cut off. No idea why.

I can see why this book was so highly rated. It is definitely a welcome addition to my library.

Great listen to learn tips on auditioning

I bought this book as a recommended read by a coach. It was very helpful for someone like me who is an audiobook narrator. Great tips and nuggets

Best acting book to this day

Professional actor here, not famous, but working...
I’ve decided to go back through the syllabus of my theater training, and, pound for pound, I can tell you (with 20+ years of professional film, tv, and stage experience) this is the best book I’ve ever read (or heard) on the subject of acting.

🙄

Narration is annoying, please don't make announcer voice actors read books like this. have some longer phrases please with pitch; it's a book about theater. The performance does not reflect the authors voice when reading it at all. Does not entrance me, makes me feel like I'm studying, which I am.
