About this listen

Ghosts of the dead swirl around Jessie Reynolds seeking her help. Two bodies have washed ashore in Blue Cove. When a third body is discovered evidence links the victims to a group of missing college students. A fourth student is still missing and the spirits will not rest until he is found.

Police Chief Matt Parker, the love of Jessie’s life, will have to handle this case alone. Further investigation shows the murders are more than local hate crimes. Matt finds himself targeted by the same suspects as the victims and must rely on experience and training to survive.

It will take more than his skills to bring the criminals to justice and survive what they have planned for him. He will need Jessie and the spirits’ other worldly help to make it back alive. Will love triumph over evil and give Jessie and Matt a chance at love?

Loved the Narration

I like spooky books! Lot's of intrigue and the voice actor was wonderful. I found the romance a little sappy at times but the overall story was interesting and suspenseful. The narration was very clear and her voice is hypnotic. I'd definately be interested in more of this series. I was given this audiobook for free at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

With the Help of a Ghost or Two...

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Weird things happen when you are a ghost whisperer... or when a ghost whispers in your ears. It is what happens to Jessie, bookstore owner and amateur sleuth, who lives in a sleepy coastal town where murder should be something that happens somewhere else far far away, and instead becomes an all too normal occurrence. The story is a typical cozy mystery with the added bonus of the paranormal. If you are a fan of the genre you will certainly enjoy the clean storyline. I did have a few issues with the narration that was more of a reading than an interpretation and though clear, it did have a strange intonation. I like the fact that Jessie owns a bookstore in town and of course that she also finds love with the Chief of Police. It is made very clear that it is new love as they apparently cannot get enough of each other and need to reassure themselves constantly. Maybe a little too cute? But since it is a "cozy" mystery, love and mouth melting desserts are "de rigueur"

Struggling with audio...may have to read this one.

Jessie Reynolds "sees dead people". On her day off from work Jessie is sitting on the beach minding her own business and reading a book. She looks up and notices something large being pushed in to shore by the surf. As she approaches the object in the water her attention is drawn to a knoll where a guy is sitting and he's looking right at her. She realizes that the object in the water is a body and the guy sitting on the knoll is a ghost and this ghost belongs to that body. Jessie wasn't sure the guy was a ghost at first because she generally sees only female ghosts. Anyway, she calls her boyfriend who just happens to be a Police Chief and he comes down with his crew and begins to investigate. In the meantime yet another body is discovered a little further down the beach. Now we have two bodies, no clothes, no identification and they show signs of torture. This is only the beginning.

If the person I love has the ability to sense or see danger headed my way and tries to tell me to watch my back and I blow it off well....we are going to have a problem in our relationship. Jessie and Police Chief Matt are letting what they feel for each other get in the way of common sense. It's like she's good enough to help you find bodies but not quite good enough to save your behind from danger. Jessie and Matt love each other I get that, but I don't need to be reminded every five minutes about the warm fuzzies that seem to hit both of them every time they are in the same room or a 5 mile radius of each other.

I first tried listening to this book with the speed set at normal. That was way too slow and not very good. When I boosted the speed up to fast it was a little better. The accents were not very good. Maybe I was having an off day with this narrator. I will look for something else she has done and see what happens. Also I may try to read this book and see if I come up with a different view on it.

I was given a free copy of this book in return for a honest interview. I stated how I feel about it but don't let that influence your decision. Everyone deserves a chance. It wasn't for me but it just may be the one you are looking for. Give it a try.
