Publisher's summary

Victor is the ultimate predator. He surfaces to kill, then disappears into thin air. But he's a disposable commodity for the powerful people he works for - both the good guys and the bad. And no one has his back. Especially now that doing black bag jobs for the CIA has put a target on his head....

Antonio Alvarez, a high-ranking US intelligence official, is determined to clean house and find the legendary killer who slipped away from him during an operation in Paris. There's only one person Victor can turn to for help: a lethal female assassin whose life he once saved. And now Victor wants her to return the favor - by killing him....

Better than The Darkest Day, but not the best

This is book 7, picking up where book 5 left off--Victor left rival Raven dying of some unknown poison. As he goes off to work in book 6, she is recuperating in the hospital. This book is half about her. And someone is out to get them both. And she, like any good Bond girl falls in love with him, but Victor is a sociopath and cannot love anyone. The only reason we keep coming back, is that he does have some principles, some values. If not for those, he would be utterly despicable.

The story is, nevertheless, exciting and engaging, with Rob Shapiro doing his usual fantastic job of providing voices.

Another home run!

I love this series and will never get enough. Of the whole genre, it's the best series in my opinion. The writing is very clever and witty. If you love the Gray Man or Orphan X, then try this, but you should read the others first, especially A Time to Die to understand some of the background for this one. Enjoy.

Great book

Starts out slow because of the narrator but picks up the pass and well worth the listen!

The End of Something Special?

I love this series and this novel was no exception.

Given the synopsis provided, I don't think it's at all a spoiler to say that Raven is back and is as snarky and fun (and deadly), as ever. I really enjoyed watching Victor interact with someone who was more of a peer and, for the moment anyway, not the competition, a threat, or his employer. It allowed us to see another side of him that wouldn't normally be featured given his usual hypervigilance and distrustful nature.

As there is no specific target in this novel, it can be said that the resolution seen in previous novels doesn't exist and that may not sit well with some readers. However, what this novel accomplishes is perhaps even better than closing the door on another human trafficker, terrorist plot, or kidnapper because it sets up the next stage of Victor's existence (or lack thereof).

I can't wait for the next one.

Action packed story

Great story but not the best narrator. His voices were so times hard to distinguish from same sex characters. Luckily I liked his voice and his timing. Will definitely listen to next book.
