About this listen

Amid the flames of royal revolt, their hearts burned with a fierce, wild love. Elizabeth of Riveaux is the most beautiful - and defiant - nobelwoman in all of Britain. After a disastrous first marriage left her with a secret shame, she refuses to accept any man. As royal factions war for England's throne, she and her knights-in-arms go to Harlowe, the border castle that is her birthright. But out of the mists comes an ambush - and a dark, handsome, broadsword-wielding Scottish lord who saves her life. Giles of Moray is immediately taken by the raven-haired, emerald-eyed beauty at his mercy, and as unbidden passion envelops them, Giles pledges his freedom and fiefdom to win Elizabeth's heart. All he demands in return is for the forcefully independent Elizabeth to surrender - completely - to the power of their love.

Terrible narrator sabotages yet another book

See my other reviews for this narrator.
Despite this book being the 4th in the series, Ms Caldwell aka Aimee Jolson has not improved in her delivery nor has she recognized French words when she encounters them pronouncing Maman as “Maaaman”, Grandmere and Blois as straight up American English. She narrates with a strange cadence along with rolling an olive in her mouth. Her attempts at a Scottish accent is laughable. Additionally she substitutes words on her own: angry instead of answering, maybe instead of mahap, etc. It is also somewhat disconcerting to hear a nasal American twang narrates “olde” English dialog.

I fault the studio or the author for not taking more care at selecting a more appropriate narrator, especially after the reviews came in for the first book in the series.

Storytelling is interesting as usual albeit sabotaged by narrator’s awful rendition. Heroine is a bit OTT shrewish and prideful and not likeable at all.
