Excellent.....par none!

What a wonderful pairing of author and narrator. With much research to historical detail, ordinary characters came to life with richness and depth. I was mesmerized! It was almost impossible to put this book down and definitely it will be read and reread with enthusiasm!

I will read but not listen

I like the description of this book, but having an English narrator was too much. I did had to rate the book because I have yet read it I am not sure what my rating will be. I gave a three not to discourage others who do not share my opinion I do not think a book about the Scottish battles against the English should be narrated by someone with an English accent.

It was ok

The story would have played better in my head if I had read instead. Narration was . . . very stiff. Sorry, he has a beautiful masculine voice but he wasn't into the characters so I couldn't get there either.

Pretty Good

I like the way history was interwoven into the story. It had me looking up some of the characters mentioned in the story to get more background information on them.

All hail the Chief!

This story begins with a longwinded and boring recitation of historical facts and the setup for this story. It was hard for me to follow... l felt like I was back in school and too bored to learn anything. However... once that is done a very good story grows. It is full of strong individuals and interesting personalities. The tale becomes one to truly enjoy instead of one to prepare you for a quiz.

NARRATOR: I have always enjoyed Robert McNab . He is a talented narrator with a mastery of voices, accents and emotions.

CREDITWORTHY? Well.... get if You can past the dry , awful , boring beginning of this tale then yes!

Heat Factor? steam...

Monica is always a winner!

What did you love best about The Chief?

Romantic, narrator was amazing. I love a book with a strong male lead and a heroine that can hold her own. Monica and the narrator really transported me back in time. It was wonderful!

Good story

I enjoyed the story, predictable at times but overall entertaining. I like the bigger story this book set up, I have a feeling next books will get better now that groundwork is laid. I enjoy this historical time period and fiction based on this time. Although this is "romance" and heavily so, I also enjoyed the fight scenes and political maneuvering story lines. I think the narrator does a good job with all the voices and I'm sure it takes some talent to swing from narrating between 2 types of sword thrusting.

Good Book But Too Long For Me

I enjoyed this book from the beginning, but I am a Highlander fan. I also enjoy historical books with a little fiction like romance. I agree that the book is well written, however some parts could have been omitted and the story still would have been great.

Excellent Series

Starting this series for the second time. History (along with fiction). Truly interesting characters. Intriguing storyline. Love the commitment & building camaraderie. If you like this genre, you won’t be disappointed. Christina & Tor’s story is one of my favorites! The narrator is difficult to listen to. Fortunately the story saves this book! I have to say Chief is a total a$$ for far longer than I could handle. Given the time in which this takes place, it could be worse.

Overall No Complaints!

What did you love best about The Chief?

I loved the story of a man who dismissed a trap and turned it to his advantage.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Chief could not be matched. He rose to meet every trial, reasonsed out every trap, and ultimately changed the circumstances to his advantage.

What aspect of Robert McNab???s performance would you have changed?

A complete disappointment. He made the heros sounds like cartoon book characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wanted to know the ending but found the narrator's mighty mouse voice beyond annoying.

Any additional comments?

I finished the book despite the narrrator, but am hoping future books have a different narrator. The storyline is completely captivating and can't be ignored.
