Publisher's summary

Eddie is a grizzled war veteran who feels trapped in a meaningless life of fixing rides at a seaside amusement park. His days are a dull routine of work, loneliness, and regret.

Then, on his 83rd birthday, Eddie dies in a tragic accident, trying to save a little girl from a falling cart. He awakens in the afterlife, where he learns that heaven is not a lush Garden of Eden, but a place where your earthly life is explained to you by five people. These people may have been loved ones or distant strangers. Yet each of them changed your path forever.

One by one, Eddie's five people illuminate the unseen connections of his earthly life. As the story builds to its stunning conclusion, Eddie desperately seeks redemption in the still-unknown last act of his life: Was it a heroic success or a devastating failure? The answer, which comes from the most unlikely of sources, is as inspirational as a glimpse of heaven itself.

In The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Mitch Albom gives us an astoundingly original story that will change everything youve ever thought about the afterlife and the meaning of our lives here on earth. With a timeless tale, appealing to all, this is a book that readers of fine fiction will treasure.

"Mitch Albom lifts us to a new level. You'll find here echoes of the classics The Odyssey, for one and that puts Albom's book in the best of company." (Frank McCourt)
"This is the fable you will devour when you fall in love. This is the tale you will keep by your side when you are lost. This is the story you will turn to again and again, because it possesses the rare magic to let you see yourself and the world anew. This book is a gift to the soul." (Amy Tan)

It made me cry

This is a great book that completely changes the way you look at heaven. It made me cry several times. The only thing I didn't like was how it jumped around, and would start chapters with "Today is Eddie's birthday...."

Loved it

A breath of fresh air! I started listening to this book, simply because of the title. I must admit I did not expected to love the message and the book. Mr. Albom did a great job, only thing I did not like, but will not change the way I feel about the book/author, is the interview at the end of the book. Great job, and well narrated.

One of the top three books I've ever read

This book is hands-down one of the greatest fiction novels I've ever read in my life. I love the way that the author tells the story in a way that almost seems to need to be read aloud. We'll always assume things about heaven, but the way that the author weaves the story of the main characters experience in heaven is one that you can only hope to experience one day. If you read this book, you will not regret it!

Positivity

Great story, one of my favorites. I love the reconciliation that the main character finds in his journey. An adequate reminder that we are all connected and how our choices have an effect on one another.

Everyone can relate to most of his insights

I saw him pitching the book on a local PBS station in Boynton Beach, FL. He was charming and I couldn't wait to read the book. I was not disappointed!
