About this listen

Forged for combat, the rock trolls have no equal. They train from birth, endure brutal conditioning, and mark their skin with every kill. They have become the very flesh of war, but their history of honor has been forgotten. Now a bounty has been issued, one which calls for the extermination of their race. To survive they must awaken to what they have lost, before their enemies begin to gather.

Born in the midst of a bloody conflict, Tryton bears a heart of peace. His talent will command respect, but his nature is the true weapon. To wield it he must rise to lead them all - without sacrificing his soul. The fate of his people lies with him, but the seeds of destruction have already been sown.

And the harvest has come.

I really enjoyed the book, but just couldn't get over the staccato machine-gun delivery of the narrator. I doubt I will pick up the next 2 books in the series because of it.

Great story, bad narration

Would you listen to The Flesh of War again? Why?

I plan on listening to the Flesh of War again once the next book in the trilogy is released on Audible.

Which character – as performed by Ralph Lister – was your favorite?

The main character - Tryton.

Any additional comments?

Great book. Captivating/new perspective of the Rock Trolls within world of Lumineia, the world that the author has shaped within all of his books.

Good story that is told very well and keeps you in suspense throughout! Can't wait to listen to the rest of the series!

Great story with plenty of action!

A coming of age story of war mongering trolls who raise their young under brutal Spartan-like conditions and, one such youth, who decides to change their society to put more focus on the family. Not much intrigue and nuance with this species, more like, "if it walks and bleeds, KILL! (or, darn it!, enslave)"

The writing was excellent and the narration was well articulated and enjoyable to listen to. It was a fun novel and worth picking up the next one in the series.

How I learned to love the trolls
