About this listen

Lady Henrietta has been in love with her neighbour since she was eight years old, and always known they were fated to be together. Unfortunately for her, Lord Cottingham seems oblivious to the fact they were made for each other.

When Henrietta is forced to acknowledge that Cottingham thinks of her as nothing more than a friend, she is determined to make him realise just what a diamond he has let slip through his fingers by making the ton fall in love with her instead.

When James Douglas, Lord Cottingham, returned home from a year in Montreal he expected life to be exactly as he left it. Unfortunately his best friend, Lady Henrietta, seems to have got a bee in her bonnet over his never replying to her letters, and suddenly he finds himself fighting for her time and attention not only with the best and the brightest of the ton, but with the handsome and roguish Duke of Devenish, who seems to be very taken with Henrietta.

As the two friends battle with their feelings for each other and the ton seeks to meddle at every turn, Henrietta must decide if there are better men out there than the boy she grew up with, and James must uncover the truth of his own heart before he loses something he loves forever.

The Foolish Friend can be enjoyed as a stand-alone novel or as part of the Regency Romps series.

Delightful Story -- Fun, Witty and Engaging!

James Douglas, the 4th Baron of Cottingham has been away in Montreal tending to family business. His friend Henrietta Cartwright has faithfully written to him all the time he was gone, but he never responded to her letters. Henrietta has been in love with James forever, and has taken to wearing white and acting bored and insipid to please James and the rest of the Ton. It is evident to her that since James never admits to reading her letters, and he didn’t respond back, that he is not in love with her. In fact, James tells her it is high time for her to take the business of finding a husband seriously.

Henrietta decides to change her dress and behavior to help her find a husband – she will not settle for anything less than love. Her cousin Emma Loughcroft has a plan to make her “all the crack” and have the menfolk of London bowing to her knees in worship; for this task Emma has engaged the help of the Duke of Devenish, or the Devilish Duke (swoon). Thus, the romp begins, and whose heart will be broken at the end?

I love Elizabeth Bramwell’s characters and plots; I have read all her books, and they are all delightful. Her dialogue is fun and witty, and she always entertains! She keeps it clean, and the focus is on character development, and she creates a cast of engaging characters that one grows to love, and you will grow to love Henrietta, James, and the Devilish Duke. Just a warning, you may not be happy with the choices Henrietta makes!

Julia Eve made this a pleasant read; her voice is very pleasant to listen to and her transitions to characters is smooth.

I was given an audio book from the author; my opinions and thoughts are my own.

Not as good as the first - but still GOOD

I only enjoyed the first in this series because I liked the characters a little more, but if you like books like 'Pride and Prejudice', this is right up your alley!
What a delightful story and brilliantly likeable and fully developed characters.
The writing is so descriptive that its easy to imagine life back in this time period!

Short and sweet regency romance

I am really enjoying this series. Lady Henrietta has been in love with Lord James since she was a little girl. James has never really paid her any attention. He goes away for a year and comes back and Henrietta realizes that James isn't ever going to look at her as anything other than a friend. So she decides to be herself and not try to be what she thinks James wants anymore. And she ends up having a lot of fun and alot of suitors. So that's obviously when James starts noticing her as more.

This book was extremely sweet. It's about two friends and I liked that. I liked that Henry was herself and I like that she enjoyed being herself.

I am looking forward to the next book!

Just as good as the first one, LOVED it

This was so much fun, being friends love sometimes comes a long and hits you without you knowing it is there which is the case for James. Henrietta has known her feeling since she was but a child, James it is taking him a little longer to understand they are meant to be. He learns it isn’t in his best interest to make the lady mad, when she gets mad she does things he doesn’t care for. It was a delight to watch him dig his self out of mess after mess that he finds his self in. I totally enjoy watching Henrietta teach him a thing or two.

The narrator did an outstanding job from her true emotions to her character voices. I always knew who was talking and how they were feeling, it really showed in her voice. Her different character voices were wonderful, she really bought the story to life. There were no volume changes, no background noise just a wonderfully delightful and very enjoyable audio that I got lost in. Her character voice were powerful, her tones right on the money. I had not listen to any of her work before but I look forward to listening to more of it.

I thought the author did a great job pulling the listener in, giving a delightful story that took you way not wanting it to end. Her characters show strength, power, passion and have become to feel like part of my family. The women stand up for their selves not backing down but also showing true passion. Her men are hard but kind, true gentleman. The romance is sweet, daring, filled with fun, thrilling, a little danger and so much passion. I truly enjoyed this from start to finish. I can’t wait to start the other ones in this series. I totally enjoyed this authors writing very much, it is one that I will listen to again.

The Foolish Friend book 2

Lady Henri has loved James for years. James was too foolish to see what was right there in front of him... Now when there are other men in the picture, is it to late? An entertaining story of how Lady Henri wins James or is it James who wins?

The Regency Romps Series by Elizabeth Bramwell is very entertaining. This is book 2 in the series, but it definitely stands on its own.

Sweet Story

I really enjoyed the narrator Julia Eve. I loved her British accent and the way the story came to life. The characters were great and sometimes funny. A Regency Romance with all the balls and parties in full swing. Henrietta is a little spoiled but most ladies of leisure were spoiled in this period of history. There were a few light curse words that I wished the author had left out. Other than that it’s a very clean and sweet romance.
Read or listen to this book to find out if Henry finally gets her wish.
I received a copy of this audiobook from the narrator but was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
