About this listen

Does your heart break every time you see your child struggle academically, socially, and emotionally because of their ADHD symptoms?

Are you worried that your pre-teen’s condition will hinder them from having a happy and successful life during their teenage and adult years?

Do you want to equip your child with the skills they need to thrive as they grow up, but don’t know exactly where to begin?

Whether you’ve only learned about your pre-teen’s diagnosis recently or you’ve been trying to manage their condition for quite some time, you may find yourself constantly overwhelmed, stressed, and even frustrated…and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

You are not alone in your situation–the fact is, ADHD is considered the third-most-common mental health disorder among children across the globe.

The good news is, just like any other child’s brain, your pre-teen’s mind is still developing, and will continue to develop. This means that with your help, love, and care for them, your young one can learn the skills that they need, develop their strengths, and realize their dreams.

After all, a lot of individuals who have been diagnosed with ADHD thrived in their respective fields–just look at Hollywood star and modern female role model Emma Watson, business magnate Bill Gates, basketball legend Michael Jordan, and even Renaissance genius Leonardo da Vinci.

This just proves that when kids are given the right opportunities and proper support, their life with ADHD can be truly amazing.

Fortunately, this book contains everything you need to be able to help your child–it can serve as your roadmap to navigate the challenging world of ADHD.

Inside, here is just a fraction of what you will discover:

  • Nineteen skills that your pre-teen must know to be adept and self-sufficient in the years to come.
  • A crash course on ADHD: know more about what your child goes through so you can offer them the right type of help.
  • A holistic approach to equipping your pre-teen for life–from developing healthy habits, learning social skills, managing emotions, building a routine, and making decisions.
  • Different ways to manage their condition, because contrary to popular belief, addressing ADHD takes more than just pills.
  • What “executive age” is, and the crucial role it plays in your child’s development.
  • Six things you should avoid at all costs while trying to help your pre-teen.
  • Over 20 self-care tips for you as a parent–help yourself so you can help your child.
  • The secret weapon of Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps that made him overcome the struggles of ADHD and find success.

And much more.

Despite what you may have heard before, ADHD does not come from bad parenting–you are not to blame for your child’s condition.

However, the way you respond to your pre-teen’s situation can make a long-lasting difference in their life.

Must have resource for ALL parents!

I was originally interested in this book to be able to better understand what my sister and nephew are going through with his recent ADHD diagnosis. Not only were misconceptions that I had squashed, but the information I learned I also plan on incorporating with my toddler! Being a single mom, I also found the self-care chapter to be an important reminder to take care of me. ;) I plan to use some of the exercises in helping my 4 year old to express and process her feelings. I also plan on sharing this book with my sister and nephew to aid in their adaptation to his diagnosis. So grateful and thankful for this comprehensive and easy to understand resource and that we are able to start using these tools early in our children's lives! Thank you!!!

Full of excellent information and help!

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book and learned so much along the way. The author has an extensive knowledge in diagnosing ADHD, the challenges that come with parenting these children, and effective strategies to help them gain skills necessary for living a happy, productive life. Every chapter is thoughtfully written, focusing on topics that kids with ADHD deal with on a daily basis. Effective tips and techniques that are discussed are practical and manageable. I especially appreciate the section on self care. The real life stories that Miss Hogan includes are so interesting and help parents realize that they are not alone. I am a retired second grade teacher and I have had years of experience with kids who just cannot focus normally. This is truly an exceptional resource for parents and teachers! I highly recommend!

Frazzled Learning Skills

I am writing this review to help parents and teachers. The more reviews a book gets; the more people will buy it and share the information inside with others, especially if the review is good. I am a 20-year high school math teacher, and for years the number one reason why students fail 9th-grade Algebra has been the lack of mastery of fundamental math skills. If students don’t have mastery before high school, they will struggle, and many will fail. This is a recurring problem, and in high school, it will require additional work outside the classroom, either at home with a parent or paying for a tutor.

The COVID-19 pandemic made educators and parents aware of social-emotional learning issues. ADHD has been known for a while, but in my tenure as a teacher, I have never received any training for the identification and treatment supports for ADHD.

The author conducted several months of research in writing the book. She is speaking from personal experience as a mother of three boys, and one has ADHD. If you are a parent or a teacher, please take the time to listen to this information. It is full of strategies that can help the child be more successful in the classroom and also will help you to know when to take a break, breathe and not become frazzled. I read the book to learn techniques to support success and help myself work with students with ADHD. I listen to the audiobook while driving to school. You can do the same! Let’s make a difference.

A MUST for parents who even suspect ADHD

As a kid, I dealt with a lot of the symptoms that are talked about in this book. Looking back now, I was lucky in many ways because I had a natural sense of humor and was likable to (most) of my peers and (most) of my teachers, so my "chattiness" was attributed to being part of my personality, but I certainly did get in trouble plenty of times and really struggled with staying focuses on subjects that I didn't understand right away or had no interest in. I lived with so much more anxiety than I realized, and in hindsight, my own parent had undiagnosed ADHD, so she was unable to recognize it in herself or in me.

This audiobook is such an invaluable resource for parents grappling with raising children with ADHD or ADD because it dives deep into the inner workings of the ADHD child's mind, shedding light on their unique developmental milestones and how they may be different than other kids their age. I also really appreciated the myth-busting approach and the inclusion of research-backed information,

The sections on how to get an appropriate assessment, as well as the section that talked about using a reward system, were particularly helpful, the latter offering practical strategies to foster independence and engagement. I found the suggestions on different activities, foods, and social skills development incredibly helpful in managing symptoms and promoting holistic well-being. Last but not least, the emphasis on emotional regulation and self-care for parents reminded me of the overall importance of taking care of myself amidst the challenges of parenting. I really enjoyed this book on so many levels- it offers a comprehensive toolkit for navigating the complexities of parenting ADHD preteens with a mix of confidence and compassion. I highly recommend this audiobook- it is an easy listen with great information!
