About this listen

Now an original series starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® by Robert Jordan has captivated millions of readers and listeners around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters.

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

The seals of Shayol Ghul are weak now, and the Dark One reaches out. The Shadow is rising to cover humankind.

In Tar Valon, Min sees portents of hideous doom. Will the White Tower itself be broken?

In the Two Rivers, the Whitecloaks ride in pursuit of a man with golden eyes, and in pursuit of the Dragon Reborn.

In Cantorin, among the Sea Folk, High Lady Suroth plans the return of the Seanchan armies to the mainland.

In the Stone of Tear, the Lord Dragon considers his next move. It will be something no one expects, not the Black Ajah, not Tairen nobles, not Aes Sedai, not Egwene or Elayne or Nynaeve.

Against the Shadow rising stands the Dragon Reborn....

Critic reviews

"The Wheel of Time...is a fantasy tale seldom equaled and still less often surpassed in English." ( Chicago Sun-Times)
"Jordan has a powerful vision of good and evil - but what strikes me as most pleasurable...is all the fascinating people moving through a rich and interesting world." (Orson Scott Card on The Wheel of Time)

The Dragon Rides Again on the Winds of Time

Well done Mr Sanderson. I didn't know if another author would've been able to pick up a story this complex in the middle and make it work. Brandon Sanderson had done just that. He clearly understands the characters and the world in which they live. I would even go so far as to say that the story moves quicker without losing any of the depth that Mr. Jordan brought to the story. If you're a Wheel of Time fan you'll enjoy this book. If you're new to the series don't even think of starting any where but the beginning. (Book 1 The Eye of the World)

The Best Yet!

When I heard that Brandan Sanderson was finishing the series, I listened to his mistborn series and found that I had confidence in his ability. After listening to The Gathering Storm twice over I am completely blown away. I love how the story focuses more centrally on Rand throughout it. Amazing, thank you Brandon for bringing us the ending to the best fantasy series ever written.

Awesome again.

I, like many other readers, have suffered through the steady decline after book 6 or 7. Brandon Sanderson brings MUCH needed clarity to the storyline. Plots that have been kept hanging for FAR too many books are wrapped up, needless diversions are ended, female characters FINALLY don't sound like mindless idiots, and the relationships are far more believable. Thank you Brandon for writing emotional depth into relationships beyond that of a 16 yr old's suppositions. (how old I was when I began these books when I was too young to notice!)

Needless to say, Sanderson has made WoT fun to read again. THANK GOD! If this novel signals the quality of the following two, hoo-damn-fricking-ray!

Looking forward to more

Thank you Mr. Jordan for the books you wrote and for your wonderful imagination. I listened to an interview he once gave and was very discouraged at the time when he indicated he planned on just continuing the Wheel of Time saga. I imaged being left with no closure should something happen to him. He died and I and my fears were realized. That being said, the new book by Brandon Sanderson is wonderful. Like many of the reviews, I agree that he is moving us toward an exciting conclusion. After hearing his first book, I am very happy he did not attempt to put everything into a single final volume. I have already purchased the Mistborn saga and I love it as well. Thank you Mrs. Jordan for picking the right person to complete your husbands work!

the storm is indeed gathering

I've been a fan of this series for many years. Until this book however I always read the books myself, so it was a fair leap for me to move over to the audio version.
The narrators are OK, for many characters I enjoy their voices, but sometimes they are a little stilted, but it didn't stop my immense enjoyment of the unfolding of the story.

I have just one HUGE BEEF with the audio version.
It says it is UNABRIDGED and yet they do NOT read the glossary.
This has annoyed me no end and caused a lot of muttering and cursing as the glossary is an incredibly important part of these books.

Finally

I have been anticipating the release of this book thinking it would be the final, and being worried that with a different author it would have a different feel. When I first found out that it wasn't the last, to say the least, I was apprehensive not knowing any of Mr. Sandersons work or his writing style. Within the first 25 pages I realized that Mr. Sanderson, while having a different writing style than Robert Jordan, kept the essence of the series intact. By the end I was, and am, salivating for the next two books. Brandon Sanderson is an amazing author and I feel, in my humble opinon, that Robert Jordan would be very happy with the results. If you have read the series and are on the fence about this book you can be at ease that it is still The Wheel of Time. Bravo Brandon Sanderson and thank you for the beginning of an amazing ending to a beloved series.

Thank You Brandon Sanderson!

What did you love best about The Gathering Storm?

This book in the series begins to

What other book might you compare The Gathering Storm to and why?

I would compare this book to some of the earlier books in the series because it seems fresh and interesting and you want to continue with the story. I've always felt that way but to a lesser extent with the most previous releases.

Have you listened to any of Michael Kramer and Kate Reading ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to all of the previous books in the series and it seems evident to me that both Kramer and Reading enjoyed performing in this particular book. The pace is faster and they read this book perfectly. This is their best work yet in the series.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were several moments involving the primary characters that made me laugh out loud and also that brought tears to my eyes. This is one of the reasons I've loved this series, because the characters seem so unique to me and the story is actually interesting and provoking.

Any additional comments?

I'm thankful to Brandon Sanderson for taking up this work. It would not have been right to have such a wonderful tale abandoned just before completion. Brandon is excellent at picking up the series and I never felt like I was listening to a different author. He integrates his writing style seamlessly and, to my surprise, he re-engages me on a new level. One last thing, if you enjoy this series and haven't yet read The Way of Kings, that should be added near the top of your download wish list!

Same good reading ...

I had never read a book by Brandon Sanderson, but since I've finished The Gathering Storm I've not only become an instant fan but also feel very happy that Robert Jordan's estate has chosen such a good author to finish his dream.
