About this listen

Rare-book authenticator Carys Jones wanted nothing more than to be left alone to pursue her obsession with ancient manuscripts. But when her biggest client is committed to an asylum, he gives Carys an offer she cannot refuse. In exchange for his entire library of priceless Dark Age manuscripts, she must track the clues hidden in a previously unknown journal, clues that lead to a tomb that could rewrite the history of Western civilization.

But there are people who would do anything to stop her from finding what she seeks - for reasons both noble and evil. The hunt takes her to places she never thought she’d go, physically and emotionally: first to Wales, her estranged father’s homeland, then to bed with Dafydd, a mysterious Welshman who agrees to help her with the search, and, finally, deep inside her own psyche when the monk who wrote the journal 1,500 years ago appears and assists her in her search.

Good adventure

Not my favorite book about books adventure, but worthy of a listen driving to work. I didn't have to play back to find my place, and it passed time.
I did like the idea of bringing Welsh legends to life and that part was 'da Vinci Code'-esque and quite creative.

I was not impressed with how the plot wrapped up and sort of just left me hanging in Cape Cod.

Some of the characters fell off abrubtly in the story or were killed off with no apparent reason - they just apparently weren't needed anymore. The plot was not moved forward with the disappearance of apparently one-dimensional characters.

The narration is good, but the accents - especially the Boston accent - was . . . interesting which is why I gave the performance 3-stars.

Amazing historic fiction story!

Very creative story circling around King Arthur's burial sight. The characters were solid and the story telling marvelous. Wonderful narrator.

Not a fan

Very slow and monotonous at times. The story line was silly and hated the way it ended with all of the main characters dying with the exception of one.

Save your money

Unsatisfactory ending to say the least. Its like 2 completely different books were stuck together and they don't match. No one wins and the lead charactor is a santumious trouble maker for no purpose. The second half of the book drastically different and improbable. The theme of the first half is discarded completely and it ends with a loud thud. The reader is left with nothing for their invested time in reading this book.

Disappointing and racist

At first I just found the main character rather judgmental and off putting, then in the last half the story takes this racist colonist turn that just ruined the whole thing. It totally killed the book for me. Gross.
