About this listen

The dead do not dream.

A week before Christmas, John and Laura Ray storm into Myron's office, desperate to find their missing daughter. Money? They don't have any. Clues? They have few. Plagued by mounting bills and a skull-crushing migraine, Portland's only ghost detective wants nothing more than to show them the door.

But defying his conscience always proves tougher to Myron Vale than saying no, and he soon finds himself embroiled in one of the strangest cases of his career. The more he learns about this unique little girl and all of her extraordinary abilities, the more he feels a kinship to her. Who took Olivia Ray? And why?

The answers propel him toward a tantalizing solution to all of his problems - and a violent clash with a powerful personality, one who can cause irreparable harm to not just Myron, but everyone he loves.

Scott William Carter means solid entertainment!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Ghost, the Girl, and the Gold to be better than the print version?

Of course, it always is. It turned the book into a play.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Ghost, the Girl, and the Gold?

The graveyard scene where Myron confesses to Alesha that he sees ghosts. The premise is outlandish but served up with such relish and panache, you just fall into it and wallow around in it like you're in a vat of your favorite nut butter.

Which character – as performed by Steven Roy Grimsley – was your favorite?

Alesha, the loyal longing maybe-lover detective who assists and berates our protagonist, Myron Vale, into doing his best.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The end (I wont' give it away) but it tells of how the life of an abandoned girl is given a second chance at life.

Any additional comments?

This is the third in the Myron Vale, Ghost Detective series. The story is a blend of science fiction and the paranormal. It's a fun ride where Carter let's his imagination run wild like a kid on the playground without a curfew.

Narrator interpretation of black voices sucks.

loved book, wish Alicia wasn't made to sound so ignorant. She is educated and sophisticated not some crack head, black women do speak correct English.

Fun

It’s not a scary ghost story, but an unusual one. Fun to listen to, entertaining and will keep you until the end.

Some have very special gifts!

Truly a great story if you are in the mood for ghosts! I have enjoyed reading all of Scott William Carter's books. I have been watching Closely for any new book! I first found him through reading another of his series, and a few stand alone books. I love the way words flow in his writing. One of my favorite things is to read someone who enjoys language fully and creatively! This is not a " spooky " tale.
A man of the living can see and speak to those who have passed to the next realm. This connected is rare. Both worlds fear his ability.
