About this listen

Maura was perfect. A perfect liar.

One humid summer evening, Officer Maura Walsh is lead to her table at a local restaurant - it’s a trendy place with cocktails on the menu, full of office workers leaning across the bar to flirt. She’s prettier than most of the women here, but everybody gives her a wide berth. She doesn’t eat or drink anything. She doesn’t meet anyone’s eye.

An hour later, Maura is dead. Her silky red hair swirls in the dirty puddles beneath her body. The dank walls of a forgotten alley are the last thing she ever saw. It took a long time for Maura to die, alone in the dark.

Somebody made sure she would have plenty of time to think about what she’d done.

Perfect for fans of Mary Burton, Karen Rose, and Lisa Jackson.

Very Good Book!

I just finished the audio version of The Golden Girl. As usual, another Dana Perry book that did not disappoint. If you have not checked this author out, you really should. Very enjoyable read with numerous twists and turns.

Limp

The narrator, a young up-start female reporter for the New York Tribune, relates this story in the same voice as the 400 pound mob boss, the crooked policemen, the editors of the newspaper and the chief of police. Actually, all characters limp into this run-on story with no voice differentiation. It is difficult to know who is talking to whom. No entertainment here.
Dana Perry uses fillers with such side steps as how the girl reporter makes scrambled eggs. (Did an editor ever get hold of this manuscript?) Our intrepid reporter was once accosted in Central Park and left to die. This seems to be her raison d'être. She repeats it ad nauseam. When the listener finally gets to the end, she/he is rewarded, all the sudden, with a prop and a (never before mentioned) character whose revelation is supposed to tie up all the ends. So much talk (in the same voice) coupled with little action does not an interesting story make.
