About this listen

The crime doesn't always fit the punishment.

A life-and-death hostage situation at Barfield High Security prison brings Governor Helen Hewitt back to her old stomping ground. But things have changed at Barfield.

A new, highly dangerous prisoner poses a threat to the peace, and when discord boils over, the prisoners join forces in an audacious escape attempt. As violence erupts among the officers and the inmates, Hewitt must once again restore order. Before it's too late.

Based on the popular TV series starring Janet McTeer, the complete and unabridged Governor series is now available for the first time in audio.

Helen Hewitt returns to Barfield Prison

The first chapter is a grabber, and the tension never lessens. After the abrupt ending, I was disappointed that there was no sequel. Nevertheless, this is a fast-paced and enjoyable listen.

I have to disagree with the negative reviews...

I actually liked this 2nd book. The 1st book was great to lay out the characters and to show how Helen evolved. Yet, the second book, you could see Helen actually implementing the "new" version of herself throughout. She was strong and no one stood in her way. Her only soft side in this book was she actually had a boyfriend! Which, didn't really fit her new work personality 😉 But was nice to see for her. I believe that many of the negative reviews and feelings are coming from the last minute of the book. It ended extremely abruptly & not at all like any of us would want for the characters 😪 (Which could easily make another book- but right now-there isn't one) But, just because every book doesn't have a happy ending...doesn't mean that the book wasn't good!!

Great!

This sequel did not disappoint. The ending was quite unexpected. I always miss the characters at the end of a good series.

Very abrupt ending

Clearly there was meant to be a third book and tv series for The Governor. It’s the only way to explain the abrupt ending.

Blah.

The story was engaging, but empty. The characters revived in this book seemed hollow or just off. For example, Victor Braithwaite seemed an odd choice to bring back, but his "new" attributes seemed contradictory to those in the first book. The ending was horrible. The only thing good about this book was the narrator. She was incredible and I'd listen to her read most anything.
