About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

If you love Bridgerton, you'll love Georgette Heyer!

The charming Sophia Stanton-Lacy is a force to be reckoned with.

When Sophy is sent to stay with her London relatives, she finds her cousins in quite the tangle.

Cecilia is besotted with an attractive but feather-brained poet, Hubert has fallen foul of a money-lender and the ruthlessly handsome Charles is engaged to a pedantic bluestocking who seems to bring out the worst in him....

Fortunately, Sophy has arrived just in time to sort them all out - but Charles is eager to rid his family of her meddlesome ways. Has the grand Sophy finally met her match?

Critic reviews

"A rollicking good read that will be of particular joy to Bridgerton viewers...the permanent glister of scandal [...] ties the whole thing together." (Independent)

"One of my perennial comfort authors. Heyer's books are as incisively witty and quietly subversive as any of Jane Austen's." (Joanne Harris)

"Absolutely delicious tales of Regency heroes. Utter, immersive escapism." (Sophie Kinsella)

A heroine overflowing with both sense and sensibility uses her skills with intelligence and bravado. There is not one circumstance she is not up to meeting ,nor does she once wait upon a man for either advice or rescue. A delightful romp of a romance and the narrator was spot-on. So good, that I several times thought had I been reading the print I might have put the book down, thinking certain points too unbelievable, but the narrator really carried the right tone, and carried the characters individuality remarkabley well.

What Fun!!

Happily, this one was done justice by the narrator. Could have been better but by comparison to the last Heyer I listened to with a female narrator, it was excellent. No regrets with *this* purchase.
And The Grand Sophy has long been one of my favourite Georgette Heyer novels. It's utterly hilarious and, after the first couple of chapters, very fast paced; and with a cast of varied characters who become increasingly embroiled by the chaos that seems to follow the wake of the heroine (it reminds me a little of Sylvester, except with a confident and optimistic heroine)

one of my favourites and good narration

great story= high ratings because the narrator actually likes and serves the writing instead of offering narration that appears thinks the story needs the irritating inclusion of yelling then dropping every 30 seconds-heyers charming witty involving characters and plot- pengui9n should reevaluate their recording style

one of the few penguin-heyer offerings with even v

This book was an absolute delight. It was witty and fun, and kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next. Sophy is a strong main character in a story that holds up well, even 75 years after it was published. This would be an excellent choice for fans of Jane Austen, but also for fans of modern regency romance.

So happy I found The Grand Sophy and Georgette Heyer!

Louise Jameson makes each character pop... bringing them to life just as I had imagined. probably the best Heyer reading on Audible

It's Georgette Heyer, and it's one of her best - so that's five stars right there. The narration was also five stars, which isn't always a given. I'll be listening to this one again.

Just wonderful

I’ve loved this book for quite a while, and when I found it on audible, I was eager to hear it. The reader is wonderful! My husband even came in at one point and asked if it was multiple people reading the different characters or just one person. She’s delightful!

Excellent!
