About this listen

A paranormal cozy mystery series from USA Today best-selling author Nancy Warren

Under the Great British Baking Contest competition tent, there's more at stake than winning the title of Best Baker in All of Britain. For amateur baker Poppy Wilkinson, there are mysteries to solve, secrets and lies, even murder. As a fledgling witch, Poppy's having enough trouble controlling her sponge cake, never mind trying to control her powers. Besides solving crime, Poppy's also trying to uncover the mystery surrounding her own background. Will she discover who she really is before she gets sent home? Or worse?

The Great Witches Baking Show is a loving homage to all competitive baking shows, but especially Bake-Off. Imagine Bake-Off with witches and murders - and recipes! Set in the lovely English countryside, these are classic British mysteries with a twist. There's no gore, swearing, or sex in these paranormal cozy mysteries - just good fun, quirky characters, an interfering ghost, and an adorable familiar or three. Sink your teeth into this bingeable series today.

Narrator is annoying

The plot seems pretty good but I can’t get over the narrators voice for the main character. It sound like she has no emotion and is really annoying sometimes.

Arrogant main character

I enjoyed the first book, was so-so on the second book, but by the time I'd reached the third book I had to convince myself to continue. The general premise of the series is fine, although it does seem like there has to be a lot going on just to get one book length.

The main character though is judgmental, arrogant, and a bit narcissistic. I won't be continuing the series as by book 3 I found her completely annoying and unlikable.

Unfortunate, as in general it seemed like a nice series.

Baking show and a mystery

Pacing was good in this clean, cozy mystery set. The books have a touch of magic in them. The mysteries and baking challenges kept me engaged. Light enjoyable audio. Narrator did a good job on accents and voices. Good value for a credit. No romantic interest in first three books. Continuing storyline for baking show and main character's search for information on her origins.

Cute storyline and characters

Cute storyline and characters. Love Gato and Sly. The only dislike was really in the first book and it was the narrator. The only way for me to describe it is that she “purred” words. But the performance got better in the second and third books. It was just a little annoying in the first book. Love Poppy and the other contestants. No bad language, sex or gore. The type of books I love

Great Cozy

I love the vampire knitting club, and was super excited for another cozy series from Nancy Warren. This has a fun crew of quirky characters, to go along with intriguing mysteries. If you ever wanted to be a fly on the wall for the Great British Bake off this is the series for you. The narrator sounds like it belongs as a show announcer. Ms McCarthy does several accents well, making it a pleasure to listen to.

Main character is so dumb... but I kept listening

The narrator gave the main character the voice of a 50 year old, when she was a very immature 25. It almost felt like the author was making fun of people in their 20s, by writing her so dumb and full of her own self importance. However I wanted to know who her parents really were so I kept reading. I finally skipped two books to get to the end. You could read the first and last book and not miss much. If you read the others, you'll likely be upset that Hamish isn't her Beau.
