About this listen

After the bloody trials of Alexandria, Sir William Gold is readying for a pilgrimage to Jerusalem to ease the burden on his soul. He hopes, too, that the Holy City might allow his relationship with Emile, cousin of the Green Count of Savoy, to develop.

But the Roman emperor of Constantinople has been taken hostage by an unknown enemy, and the Green Count is vital to the rescue effort. It is up to Sir William to secure his support, but he soon finds that his past, and his relationship with Emile, might have repercussions he had not foreseen....

Suddenly thrust onto the stage of international politics, Sir William finds himself tangled in a web of plots, intrigue and murder. He must hold true to his chivalric principles, and to his knights, if he is to save the emperor and survive to tell the tale.

The humanity

The characters are very human, broken, fallible, selfish, but awesome and occasionally altruistic
very realistic and relatable

Best in Series

This series was a first for me by this author and each book got better and better. This latest of The Green Count blew me away, because it was simply exceptional in every way. Interesting historical details with fight & battle scenes that were singular, unique and highly entertaining. Especially as Sir William Gold fights to escape captivity on more than one occasion. Christian Cameron portrays chivalry like no other. The Green Count was easily a new favorite. While I look forward to his other series now, this will be on replay with me for certain.

Story vs narrator

Not my favorite in the series. If you’re going to listen to this narrator, then you need to put it on 1.1 speed. Otherwise the dude will put you to sleep. Good story though.

Very good overall series

I love historical fiction and have listened to almost every audiobook in the genre , if you like the Bernard Cornwell series of books you will very likely enjoy these , I love hearing the technical aspects of the knightly combat and this is the first series I have enjoyed that included those details , you can tell the author has personal experience with combat and armor obviously through role play but it still makes the descriptions excellent. The performer reading this series is also very good and I’m never bored with the narration. I look forward to continuing the series . I rarely write reviews but I saw this series had very few so figured I would add my 2 cents in the hopes someone like me might be searching and give it chance .

Worthy sequel

When I began listening and the narrator had changed I turned it off and didn’t listen for or day or two. Then I gave it another shot and unlike most series that switch narrators he fit the story and the story was good.

Performance a let down from previous in series

Not enough chapter markers and the performance was poor compared to the other 2 in the series. Shame, as story was good.
