Story
The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

It’s two months before Amelia’s big audition for the Mystwick School of Musicraft. If she gets in, she will learn to spin music into powerful magic - but her Gran has one last-ditch plan to persuade her out of it: sports camp. A week of softball, sprinting, and sweaty socks isn't exactly Amelia’s idea of a good time - in fact, she's deeply, appallingly unathletic. Fifty-five years ago, Helen L. Taylor took John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress and simplified the vocabulary and concepts for young listeners while keeping the storyline intact. The result was a classic in itself, which has now sold over 600,000 copies. It's both a simple adventure story and a profound allegory of the Christian journey through life, a delightful listen with a message kids ages six to 12 can understand and remember. A new look for today's children enlivens the journey to the Celestial City.

Short
A nice enough story, but it's too short to be a stand-alone title, it's almost more preamble than story.

fun but ends prematurely
Whilst the story is orated very well, the tale itself doesnt have a great moral - and seems to end rather prematurely. It fails to address the apathy of the prince, the concept of slavery, or reward characters proportionately to their efforts. not great for kids.

Never will turn away a Dina Gregory book
Not my favorite of her books but still a good story and much can be taught from it still. I tend to look at all of her books through a teaching standpoint. I still remember the first book I read of hers, 'The Pelbunkin'. I had the kids cowering under blankets with bulging eyes and then amazed at the new vocabulary words they learned all from a "child's" book! They were after all going into 5th grade and told by parents and teachers they were not allowed to read baby books any longer. Well, I took care of that. ;-)

Missed opportunity
It’s the Emporer’s New Clothes with a missed opportunity for evolution.
It ends as it begins, with an entitled prince and a girl servant.
For a longer, livelier, more girl positive fairy tale, I suggest Eligible Maidens by Layla Carr,
which may also still be free in Audible.

Dina Gregory is Better than This
The Haberdasher Prince is not a good example of the talent of Dina Gregory. The prince, who has no talent, takes a servant girl, who shows him up by playing beautifully as his "property"? This short tale lacks the wit, humor and quirkiness of most of this author's previous efforts.
