About this listen

Ages 10+

Fugitive. Criminal. Robot.

A sci-fi adventure for young listeners, Interview with the Robot introduces a unique heroine who seeks the truth about herself.

Eve looks like an ordinary 12-year-old girl, but there’s nothing ordinary about her. She has no last name. No parents or guardian. She’s on the run from a dangerous and secretive organization that will stop at nothing to track her down.

And most astonishing of all: she’s a robot, a product of Eden Laboratories. When Eve discovers the truth, she realizes everything she thought she knew about herself is a lie. Eve manages to escape, fleeing the lab, the only home she’s ever known.

After being arrested for shoplifting, Eve is interviewed by Petra Amis from Child Welfare Services. Her incredible story unfolds during the interrogation, with flashbacks to her life inside Eden Laboratories, which has a dark secret. Listeners follow Eve from her first moment of consciousness to her evolution as a nearly-human companion to Emory, the son of the founder of Eden Laboratories.

Exploring a range of topics that drive our society and our lives—topics such as artificial intelligence and human nature - Interview with the Robot is a story told by a startlingly original protagonist, a story that explores the vast potential of technology and the deep complexities of humanity.

My kids loved it.

The adults thought it was a bit melodramatic and predictable but the 7 and 10-year old were hooked.

My Kids Nearly Mutinied Demanding a Sequel

Interview with the Robot was a fairly enjoyable read, mildly amusing in places, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. The entire cast of narrators was great. Jonathan Davis especially gave a special, dark edge to a tragic character and I'm not just saying that because I'm a big Jonathan Davis fan from his work narrating Star Wars and Nimona--though less so for his work narrating conservative propaganda. At any rate, my kids loved it. They especially thought the mildly amusing jokes about robot bathroom etiquette were hilarious. And when the book ended, they were angry. In fact, they nearly mutinied during a road trip when I explained that there was no sequel. Ultimately, Bacon did a great job, and I--along with my kids, hope he decides to give us another glimpse into the life and "family" of this unconventional teenager.

Wonderful

Wonderful! Beautiful, amazing tale that's exciting and heartwarming. The narration is superb. I was hooked the second I stated listening and didn't stop until I had finished it in one go. I'm so glad I randomly decided to listen. Worth every second of my time.

Fun story with great performances

Got this as a monthly freebie. I often choose the Audible Originals geared toward kids, because they are often the best. This was a fun story with some great (albeit somewhat predictable) twists. Sort of a sci-fi adventure story. Great for kids, but I’m an adult and I thoroughly enjoyed it. All the performers did a great job. If you’re listening with kids, listen to a chapter at a time. Each chapter ends in sort of a mini cliffhanger, so it’s fun to stop there and try to imagine what’s going to happen next.

Awesome Tale

Wonderful story, heads down a Twilight Zone trope with a satisfying ending with a good message at the end. Take this story for a spin, you won't be disappointed. Almost forgot, the cast did an awesome job making this feel like an old time radio serial. You really feel like you are experiencing the story!

Fun Radio Play !

I listened to this even though it is YA because it was written as a radio play rather than a book -- ensemble cast with no "said Eve" and "he commented" every couple of lines. It is a light clever story, I will recommend to the niece.
