About this listen

On a Halloween night, eight boys are led on an incredible journey into the past by the mysterious "spirit" Moundshroud. Riding a dark autumn wind from ancient Egypt to the land of the Celtic druids, from Mexico to a cathedral in Paris, they will witness the haunting beginnings of the holiday called Halloween.

Featuring the evocative prose and imagery of Ray Bradbury, the fine acting of the Colonial Radio Theater players, and atmospheric music and sound effects, this story will send shivers of delight (and spine-chilling terror) through listeners young and old, long after the last candle has died in your jack-o'-lantern.

Brilliant story with historical significance

From 8 to 88, this is a grabbing story for anyone curious to learn the true meaning of Halloween and how cultures throughout history celebrate and revere those who have passed away before us. Enchanting.

A Halloween Tradition

The only part I didn’t like about this was that it wasn’t narrated by Ray Bradbury like the movie was.

An absolutely amazing job from the voice actors. I've read this many times, and listened to this audiobook even more. I love the story.

My First Audio Book..Perfect Experience

I listened while I worked...which consists of telephone calls & being in triage in medical field...so didn't listen too hard...however the background noise was appreciated bc not too invasive ...& what I did hear was interesting . I love plays musicals drama..so the dramatization is definently a plus. as others said it is like gathering around a radio back in the day...look forward to actually listening to whole thing & to more audio books . I believe I am hooked ...great way to pass day at work not ,being to invasive & also absorbing information !!!!!!!

Moundshroud Would Be Proud

An amazing adaptation of this classic story. The narrator does a great job of setting the spooky scenes and each voice actor is absolutely fantastic in their role. Could not have been more perfectly cast. The outstanding music that has been added really puts this at the top of our family favorite audio picks. So much fun!

Dramatised by Jerry Robbins (Moundshroud)

J.T.Turner (Narrator)

Anastas Varinos (Pip)

Matthew Scott-Robertson (Tom)

Jeffrey Gage (Musical Director)

A well told story of frightful adventure.

What made the experience of listening to The Halloween Tree (Dramatized) the most enjoyable?

As I listened to the story being told I could picture it in my mind. I read a review in which they stated this should have been a cartoon movie. As I listened I had to agree. Then as I listened more and the images the story brought to mind became more and more vivid, I realize it had! Cartoon Network made a movie out of it with Leonard Nemoy as Moundshroud and Ray Bradbury himself doing the narration. While this dramatization was not from that cartoon, it could easily have fit in with it.

This was reminiscent of early 1900's where families would sit around the radio to listen to the stories being told. Sound effects, music, song. all in all a GREAT production.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Halloween Tree (Dramatized)?

It is hard to pick a favorite moment. Each jump through time brought on an exciting moment as you hang on every word to find out where they were now and what the situations was going to be.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Twenty minutes into the story I had to stop it and gather my kids with me in the den and then I started it again. We all enjoyed it together as a family.

Enjoyed the Change of Pace...

If you could sum up The Halloween Tree (Dramatized) in three words, what would they be?

Fun
Engaging
Enchanting

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Halloween Tree (Dramatized)?

I think for me the most memorable moment is when the boys understand the meaning behind Halloween and the costumes they are wearing. Plus, in that moment realizing the ultimate sacrifice they must make for their friend, Pip.

What does the narrator bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

With the book being dramatized, I would have never heard several different voices, music, and sound effects that the book brings into play.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Well, there is already a movie made about it in cartoon form, but probably: The adventure of finding the true meaning behind Halloween.

Any additional comments?

The book is very condensed and somewhat different from the book that I read and I guess that was to keep to the essence of the dramatization. The real book does differ from the movie in some ways.

A magical journey through Halloween tradition!

I love this production, and have listened every year for a long time. Now I'm sharing it with my grandson, and even though he's only 3 the sound effects and different voices really hold his attention. It's become a Halloween tradition in our family that we all enjoy very much. It's really about the roots of Halloween, and the different beliefs around the world that keep it alive today. Educational and very entertaining.
