About this listen

New York Times and internationally best-selling author Jussi Adler-Olsen delivers an exhilarating mystery in the Department Q series, featuring Detective Carl Mørck and his enigmatic assistants, Assad and Rose.

In the middle of his usual hard-won morning nap in the basement of police headquarters, Carl Mørck, head of Department Q, receives a call from a colleague working on the Danish island of Bornholm. Carl is dismissive when he realizes that a new case is being foisted on him, but a few hours later, he receives some shocking news that leaves his headstrong assistant Rose more furious than usual. Carl has no choice but to lead Department Q into the tragic cold case of a vivacious seventeen-year-old girl who vanished from school, only to be found dead hanging high up in a tree. The investigation will take them from the remote island of Bornholm to a strange sun-worshipping cult, where Carl, Assad, Rose, and newcomer Gordon attempt to stop a string of new murders and a skilled manipulator who refuses to let anything - or anyone - get in the way.

I'm sorry i love this series but this book was a total snooze fest, way to long and drawn out.

I loved the characters in dept. Q ! I hope it's not the end of Q.

Wonderfully written but. Sometimes crawled.

murder mystery from the past. way too much concentration on suicide and accepting death. this could have been two books.

interesting story

This book is quite different from previous installments. It focuses more on the investigation which is more complex a finally has some unexpected twists and surprises up in its sleeve. For the first time Carl is more involved and he doesn’t need to be so heavily convinced by the others about the case. He is not that lazy guy anymore (who just sits with his legs up and daydreaming about doing nothing). On the other hand there are still no breathtaking investigation techniques nor mind blowing deductions by the DepQ members. It is just about not giving up and doing thorough police work.

No more “Christ on a bike” nor “Asaaasad” yelling

I’ve read/listened to several Dept Q books and Hanging Girl does not disappoint. Lots to twists and turns, and of course attitude from Rose and Assad. Very entertaining!

Again Dept Q entertains

I love every one of J A-O books. The blending of unique characters, complex plots, with a profound understanding of human nature, make these outstanding in every way. That doesn’t even include the glorious narrative by Graham Malcom who has to be the best narrator in history.

Brilliant, profound, charming, drole

I love the Department Q series. Admittedly, some stories are better than others, but this one was excellent and worthy of the 15+ hour length. The main enjoyment for me are the main characters - Carl, Assad, Rose and Gordon. They diligently investigate and still crack me up. One of my favorite quotes by Assad in this book -- "She screams like a camel that ate sand."

If you are new to the series, start with the excellent debut story titled "The Keeper of Lost Causes." If you already enjoy this series, you will be pleased with this story.

An Excellent Listening Experience

Dept Q is one of my favorite series. The Hanging Girl has just reinforced it. Although I enjoyed Marco Effect more. Only thing I didn't like was the ending. Definitely worth a credit

I have read or listened on audio 6 of Jussi Adler Olsen's Dept.. Q series. The hanging girl is by far his best book to me. I love the fact that this book had more humor that intertwines through out and felt this book was so detailed and intriguing from beginning to end. I love the characters Rose Assad and Hardy and was glad to see Karl enjoying his life again in Dept Q. I can't wait to see what is in store in the next book. Olsen is an excellent writer and I enjoy learning about Denmark and its current events and history that's intertwined throughout his books - excellent job on the audiobook narration .

Excellent

The writing and characters are excellent The series captures your attention and I love the subtle humor and clever camel references by the character Assad. The narrator is excellent. The crime mysteries are intricate and not the typical storylines. They are interesting, clever and keep you guessing.

Great series
