Publisher's summary

America’s number one progressive radio host looks at how elites have long tried to disenfranchise citizens - particularly people of color, women, and the poor - and shows what we can do to ensure everyone has a voice in this democracy.

In today’s America, only a slim majority of people register to vote, and a large percentage of registered voters don’t bother to show up: Donald Trump was elected by only 26 percent of eligible voters. Unfortunately, this is not a bug in our system, it’s a feature. Thom Hartmann unveils the strategies and tactics that conservative elites in this country have used, from the foundation of the Electoral College to the latest voter ID laws, to protect their interests by preventing “the wrong people” - such as the poor, women, and people of color - from voting while making it more convenient for the wealthy and white. But he also lays out a wide variety of simple, commonsense ways that we the people can fight back and reclaim our right to rule through the ballot box.

Source of excellence

Thom is not only a progressive but a well informed historian. This book explains the history of voting and the gradual destruction of our democracy.
Through voter suppression and fraud, the Republicans have garnered a definite edge in all elections.
It’s a wake up call for Democrats to get out there to make changes to the system, before it’s too late

Every American should listen to this book!

A succinct and engaging history of voting in the USA that explains a lot about why our governing bodies are so unresponsive to the citizenry. Great listen.

Control of the VOTE!

I get a feeling that the research on this amazing journey throw the vote in America and around the world was painstakingly differcult! While I find it very educational, it leaves me fearfully dejected!
The influence of money on the e!ectorate is in most instance is criminal! Most people in my opinion desire to be WHITE for one reason; the POWER! It is so clear that to compete on any level, those among us would share the top levels in all areas. Unfortunately, the system is rigged and / or controlled by the manipulation of a few pulling on the most basic needs of the masses!

If the many illegal methods are continued without check, the election in 2020 is a foregone conclusion! The pain and suffering directly related to the oppressive policies, will plunge this nation and the WORLD into BALL OF DEATH and DESTRUCTION! The TRUMP agenda of self-serving glory riches and unchecked power, has released the frustration those who hang on his every word not realizing they are his biggest marks! If only they would LISTEN to what he is saying, not just hear him, they would realize he has the least respect for them! He has them totally CONNED! With the full support of the GOP, the judges and law enforcement, stealing the election will be like taking candy from babies!
GOD HELP US ALL!

Just the facts.

No partisan excitement, just plain conversational presentation of historical record, including the handwritten letters between our country's founders, and the racial implications of some laws. The battle is more top-down than left-right. Money in politics give corporations and billionaires almost total power over elections by flooding the airwaves and social media with falsehoods to keep the very, very wealthy in control.
