A story line with promise but a promise missed

I was looking for a rich delve into the dynamics of manipulating history, but what I discovered was a tale that sounded like something written by a high school student. A lot of promise in the premise but a promise missed. The characters are very flat, one-dimensional portraits, and the understanding and scholarship of historical events is just as shallow. This was a very disappointing experience, and after 4 hours of hoping for the book to develop, I just have to stop. The author needs more development so his writing becomes deeper than the electronic page it is written on.
