About this listen

Summer begins with Mary Kay Andrews, in this delightful summer story about flipping houses, and finding true love.

"Narrator Kathleen McInerney exudes beach-read energy in this entertaining audiobook....Listeners will be swept up in the complicated plot and enjoy the entire wild ride." -AudioFile on The Homewreckers

Hattie Kavanaugh went to work restoring homes for Kavanaugh & Son Restorations at eighteen, married the boss’s son at twenty, and became a widow at twenty-five. Now, she’s passionate about her work, but that’s the only passion in her life. “Never love something that can’t love you back,” is advice her father-in-law gives her, but Hattie doesn’t follow it and falls head-over-heels for a money pit of a house. She’s determined to make it work, but disaster after disaster occurs, and Hattie’s dream might cost Kavanaugh & Son their livelihood. Hattie needs money, and fast.

When a slick Hollywood producer shows up in her hometown of Savannah, Georgia, she gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: star in a beach house renovation reality show called The Homewreckers, cast against a male lead who may be a love interest, or may be the ultimate antagonist. Soon, there’s more at stake than bad pipes and dry rot: during the demolition, evidence comes to light that points to the mysterious disappearance of a young wife and mother years before.

With a burned out detective investigating the case, an arsonist on the loose, two men playing with her emotions, and layers upon layers of vintage wallpaper causing havoc, it's a question of who will flip, who will flop, and if Hattie will ever get her happily-ever-after.

Fun story

I live Mary Kay Andrews books. I’ve read many of them. I loved the murder mystery. I do feel that the love between Mo and Hattie didn’t really develop well throughout the story. It was almost like an afterthought. All of a sudden they are madly in love and he moved across the country for her at the end….but I didn’t see this deep love develop in the story. It was more like a little crush. Maybe it was just me. I still absolutely recommend this story.

Great Summer Listen

This is a good summer listen. It is not too heavy and is easy to follow. I await Mary Kay Andrews spring/summer release every year and start my summer with it. I love that she sticks to Tybee and the surrounding areas as her setting. Having been to Tybee I have a perfect visual.

Another winner from MKA

Great story. Great narration. A fun listen … MKA is the best writer. Her writing just flies, it’s not stilted nor does it feel like it’s written for a 7th grader. Can’t wait for the next one. And if you haven’t already…. Go back and listen to her earlier book in the Callahan Garrett series starting with Every Crooked Nanny. A treasure trove of great stories and characters!

A+++++++++

MKA is the best of the best. This book did not disappoint!
I absolutely loved it!

I always have mixed feelings about this narrator. It usually takes me a while to get use to her. At first, I'm always highly annoyed at how she goes overboard with the over dramatizing but eventually i get use to her and end up thinking that no one could have done it better.

Intriguing plot design

I enjoyed traveling the road the author paved through Savannah and Tybee Island. Great character development which gets me as a reader invested.
