About this listen

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson investigate the legend of a supernatural hound, a beast that may be stalking a young heir on the fog-shrouded moorland that makes up his estate. The best of the Holmes novels!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Hound of the Baskervilles to be better than the print version?

It all depends on your circumstances. It is more convenient for me to listen to it.

Any additional comments?

This book is a classic Holmes books. Beautifully written and executed.

I love this book, and the narration - an odd mix of British and Singaporean - frankly gets in the way. It’s a shame, with differently pronounced common English words stopping the flow of the narration entirely. Really odd, unique and ultimately pointlessly bad choice by Audible. The book is nevertheless tremendous, a true classic.

Great book, annoying narration.

I've been a huge fan of the BBC Sherlock Holmes series (with Benedict Cumberbatch) since it began, but I've never actually read the books themselves. This did not disappoint, and I quickly made my second Sherlock Holmes audiobook purchase. It's lovely because there's wit and suspense without too much gore.

Loved it!

I have watched the movie many a time. Read the book. A few times. It seems that I miss something a time or two. But always pick up something new...😁

Great book old book

This was my first listen here on audible and I must say it was quite enjoyable. John Pethers has a lovely voice on The Hound of the Baskervilles and I look forward to hearing more from this narrator. Love all the older classic detective books.

Quite enjoyable!

Well-constructed and with rich characters. Both Holmes and Watson at their best. Pether's narration leaves much to be desired though. Wooden, almost monotonous, with no differentiation in voicing. And he mispronounced a few words. Overall, worth bearing with the narration to read this classic mystery.

A wonderful mystery of its time

What does John Pether bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Mr. Pether has a musical manner of speaking that lends an additional layer of character to this already distinctive tale. This was my first reading by the author, the narrator, and of this tale. All are quite pleasing and comfortable. I hope to read with them again.

Well-narrated and moody

I "collect" audiobook versions of "The Hound of the Baskervilles." I enjoy hearing my favorite Sherlock Holmes story in the voice of various narrators, famous and not so well-known. The narrator of this version is very good.

The story is so well known I won't recount it here. The book is a classic. It is an easy listen. I am happy to recommend this book.

I loved the narration and the story is a classic for a reason. I should have read it or listened to it way sooner.
