About this listen

From Timothy Zahn, Hugo Award winner and New York Times best-selling author of two landmark Star Wars® series, comes an original new tale featuring a renegade space pilot, his unusual alien partner, and an unknown cargo that can change the course of galactic history.

Jordan McKell has a problem with authority. Unfortunately for him, the iron-fisted authority of the powerful Patthaaunutth controls virtually every aspect of galactic shipping. In order to survive, Jordan ekes out a living dabbling in interstellar smuggling for outlaw concerns that represent the last vestiges of free trade in the galaxy. So when Jordan and his partner, Ixil - an alien with two ferret-like "outhunters" linked to his neural system - are hired by a mysterious gentleman to fly a ship and its special cargo to Earth, they jump at the job.

Caution has never been one of Jordan's strong suits. But this time, he may have taken on more than even he can handle. The ship, Icarus, turns out to be a ramshackle hulk, the ragtag crew literally picked up off the street, and the cargo so secret, it's sealed in a special container that takes up most of the cramped and ill-designed ship. As if that weren't bad enough, it looks like the authorities already suspect something is afoot, there's a saboteur aboard, and the Icarus appears to be shaking apart at the seams.

It doesn't seem as if things could get any worse. That is, until a beautiful crew member helps McKell uncover the true nature of the cargo he's carrying. With his enemies closing in on the lumbering Icarus, the unknown saboteur still aboard, and authorities on Earth pressured to turn them in, McKell and Ixil become fugitives. Their only chance is to stay one step ahead of their pursuers as they try to make it home.

A bold and epic novel filled with unrelenting action and a good dose of humor, The Icarus Hunt is a wild hyperspace romp through the galaxy.

Masterfully written whodunit in space

Timothy Zahn continues to write books that give me such a euphoric high after finishing them. How you can get so addicted to reading/listening to a book and yet feel complete satisfaction with the ending is a testament to the ability off the writers skill. A+ or so I’m going to say overall. The only thing lacking in this particular story, in my opinion, is a slightly more compellingly written heroine. Otherwise an excellent read.

The Perfect Book

This book is perfect. Great characters, great story and an even greater ending. Balances science fiction and mystery amazingly well!

Great story! Glad it finally made it to audible

it's great to see some of these superb stories. make it to the audio world. this is a good yarn and the master sci-fi author was not excessively predictable. on the other hand, the narrator was okay at times and really awful, particularly when it comes to narrating fight scenes. also, I could do without the crappy Italian godfather voice

Marc Thompson Shines

Timothy Zahn is an outstanding author. But I know that already. What I didn't know was how amazing a reader and narrator Marc Thompson is. This book taught me that.

Listen to it just for his frog lady voice. it's gold!

Fun, action packed tale with stellar narration!

I first read this book when it came out and when I saw it again recently on Audible, I thought it might be interesting to revisit the story in audio form. I’m really glad that I did because the narration was fantastic and deeply impressive. The energy that went into the performance is something I will remember for a long time. As well, I really enjoyed hearing the story again and would highly recommend it for anybody who is a fan of action oriented science fiction or just action stories in general.if you like spies, drama, action then this is probably a good book to check out. I’m going to try the new Timothy Zahn books that are based on this and (fingers crossed), hopefully they will be as much fun as the Icarus Hunt was.

Excellent

Starts out like a normal book, but builds better and better the further you get in. By the end, you can’t put it down. Good suspense build up, very satisfying ending.

Hank Hill, Hikaru Sulu, & Foghorn Leghorn

The voice of the ship’s doctor is the voice of King of the Hill, the voice of the partner, about halfway through, begins to sound like an older George Takei. The voice of the rich man is a mild version of Foghorn Leghorn. The top bad guy is Marlon Brando as The Godfather. The ex-marine is some familiar Aussie whom I cannot place. Probably other voices I failed to recognize. ;-)

whoa Marc Thompson

this is a great book, the story line does not disappoint. The narration however, is a challenge to swallow. inappropriate emotions, over the top attempts at trying to sound authentic etc. I enjoyed the book in spite of, not because of the narration. I definitely did not enjoy being yelled at. The narrator sounds constipated, and pissed off about it.

The ending was a real surprise!

I enjoyed the audio production. I was hoping that it was headed in a specific direction but it was not. Then came the turnabout ending. I loook forward to the next volume.
