About this listen

Too many discipleship books are written for clean, perfect people who know all the right Sunday school answers. The Imperfect Disciple is for the rest of us - people who screw up, people who are weary, people who are wondering if it's safe to say what they're really thinking.

For the believer who is tired of quasi-spiritual lifehacks being passed off as true, down-and-dirty discipleship, here is a discipleship book that isn't afraid to be honest about the mess we call real life. With incisive wit, warm humor, and moving stories, Jared Wilson shows listeners how the gospel works in them and in their lives when:

  • They can't get their act together
  • They think God is giving them the silent treatment
  • They think church would be better without all the people
  • They're not happy with the person in the mirror
  • And much more

Wilson frees listeners from the self-doubt and even the misplaced self-confidence they may feel as they walk with Jesus down the often difficult road of life. The result is a faith that weathers storms, lifts burdens, and goes forth to make more imperfect disciples.

Very Good

I’d say one of the best books I’ve read on the subject of following a Christ... maybe one of my all time favorites in general. Bold, Balanced, Biblical. Enjoy.

Renewing!

I am so thankful for the truth spoken within this book.
I was most convicted about my simply looking instead of seeing Christ and "beholding" him.

Disciplines for people from legalistic churches

This book is very helpful for people who come from legalistic backgrounds and basically gives encouragement and help with pursuing spiritual disciplines.

Deep thoughts in an easily digestible format

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I was impressed by the depth of the theology and the accessibility of the writing. This is worth multiple listens/reads.

a serious game changer

maybe you're like me and grace has led you to this book while you were looking for something else, just stop for a few hours and listen to it-seriously. maybe you are deliberately looking for a book like this, just stop for a few hours and listen to it- seriously. you can't come away from it without being seriously changed.

great

The writing pales against the truths it uncovers, and by Earthly standards that's saying something. Put down the televangelists du jour and pick this up.

Rich, biblical affirmarion

God knows, none of us is perfect. And that’s the message. He knows. And then, the author gives Biblical and pastoral references to help guide the reader and encourage on the path toward righteousness - the right kind.
The reader was very conversational and approachable. Listening in the car, it was like having a friendly car-pooler along.

The Imperfect Disciple! So there's hope for us...

I have been hearing and reading so much about discipleship the last few years, a lot of it quite good and helpful. There are new programs to get people to disciple people and different ways to do it. I like those ideas and many are finding them useful in their churches. One-on-one, small groups, micro churches, and more.

What I like about Jared's book is that it is so real and so ongoing. Why is it ongoing? Because the Church is. Grounded in Christ and the New Testament teachings, to be disciples we need to be connected to the Church to continued discipleship in our own lives and into the lives of others.

Jared says this very well with his stories of personal experiences and his teaching from the Bible. Discipleship is a shared experience and needs the shared context of the Church. I think the author points this out well. We need to stay in a relationship with others even when it isn't easy to do at times. That's because disciples are imperfect.

I like specific programs but this book spoke to my heart as a person who needs all the Grace he can get.

God's Grace is Sufficient for EACH of US.

A very important perspective, that each Believer needs reminded of, and each Unbeliever needs to embrace!
