Needing a fleshed out backstory for Wood’s Tempest, I wrote Shifting Sands, the introduction to the story arc. Nick and the gang are always fun to write about, and this is my favorite of the series.
Kurt Hunter was introduced in Wood’s Revenge, and has six books of his own. Backwater Tide reunites him and Mac, and leads into Wood’s Tempest.
Mac takes the story from there and needs every bit of what he’s learned in the previous two stories to save Pamela and Trufante. This story also serves as the start of a new direction for Mac and the gang. Hang on and enjoy.
Shifting Sands: Things are never easy when you’re labeled a pirate in the Caribbean.
On the run from his past, Nick and the crew of The Panther have enough treasure aboard to live like kings, but nowhere to spend it. Not all the crew agrees on his plan, and after a near mutiny, the crew decides to try for a new start. When his heritage catches up to him and a new treasure appears, bigger than anything they’ve tried to recover before, the crew is lured into an adventure off the coast of the Yucatan. The natives and legendary pirate Jean Lafitte stand in the crews way, forcing them to use everything they’ve learned to escape.
Backwater Tide: There is one word that brings out the worst in people: treasure.
When Special Agent Kurt Hunter finds a boat adrift in the Biscayne National Park with the dead body of a famous treasure hunter aboard, the race is on to find his killer. Alliances shift and the bodies start to pile up as Kurt and Justine navigate the devious and dangerous world of treasure hunters to find the killer. From the iconic Intracoastal Waterway of Miami to the beauty of the Biscayne National Park, this new mystery from best-selling author Steven Becker reveals the good, the bad, and the ugly of South Florida.
Wood's Temepest: Mac Travis thought it was easy to disappear in the Florida Keys.
Living on an island; fishing, diving, and some salvage work kept him busy - until his past catches up to him. When a famous treasure hunter is murdered, Mac is handed his research of a hundred lost wrecks, but to save a friend's family from a crazed competitor, he must find the right one - and find it first, before people dear to him start to die.
The latest in the Mac Travis Adventure Series from best-selling author Steven Becker is set against the backdrop of the awe-inspiring Florida Keys. If you enjoy boating, fishing, scuba diving, and the counter-culture of the Keys, you will love this new standalone adventure.

This was my first introduction to the Tide's of Fortune series and I enjoyed it. The listener is introduced to the treasure that leads to such mayhem in the second two books. The part where they used a diving bell was fascinating. And the experimentation to discover how long a person could stay under water was sobering. We get so used to having information readily available that we forget how dangerous life was in the not so distant past.
The second book was Kurt Hunter's story with some crossover by Mac Travis. Kurt is determined to learn about his new environment and his book starts out with a race he and his wife, Justine are in. One thing I love about Becker's writing is the women. They are all strong and intelligent women who do their share of rescuing their men :) I don't want to say too much about it because 'spoilers' but the last two books definitely need to be read in order.
I adore Trufante and Pamela (the sh*t magnets). I usually get annoyed by characters that constantly end up hip deep in "it" but not so with these two. I think the voice acting skills of Paul J. Sorley give such character to the Cajun and his soulmate, that I can't wait to see what mess they drag Mac into. Quite a few times, I've laughed aloud during the Mac Travis series. And seriously, Sorley has the PERFECT accent and voice for Trufante. Sorley and Becker are an amazing combination.
Pamela is such an interesting character. I hope that we finally learn about her backstory. Becker crafts a really good story. There's no rushing to finish writing the book and not all details are addressed which leaves openings for later books. His characters are very believable and people you can relate to. After finishing this I rushed to see if there were anymore of the Kurt Hunter and Mac Travis books that I need to add to my library.
I really like Clive Cussler adventures but when it comes to ocean action adventures, I think Steven Becker knocks it out of the park. Paul J. Sorley is the perfect pairing with Steven Becker and I hope they both continue to work together for a long time to come.
I highly recommend this trilogy.

The stories were all full of suspense and you were kept waiting till the end before you knew how the story was going to end.
There were some characters who were familiar as I have listened to many of Steven Becker's stories.
The narration was outstanding with clear pronunciation and multiple voices.
