About this listen

Dick Wolf makes his literary debut with this tense, driving thriller, reminiscent of the classic The Day of the Jackal, an extraordinary tale filled with the ingenious twists and high-wire suspense we have come to expect from this master storyteller.

Days before the July Fourth holiday and the dedication of One World Trade Center at Ground Zero, an incident aboard a commercial jet flying over the Atlantic Ocean reminds everyone that vigilance is not a task to be taken lightly. But for iconoclastic NYPD detective Jeremy Fisk, it may also be a signal that there is much more to this case than the easy answer of this being just the work of another lone terrorist.

Fisk - assigned to the department’s Intelligence Division, a well-funded antiterror unit modeled on the CIA - suspects that the event might also be a warning sign that another, potentially more extraordinary scheme has been set in motion. Fluent in Arabic and the ways of his opponents, Fisk is a rule breaker who follows his gut - even if it means defying those above him in the department’s food chain. So when a passenger from the same plane, a Saudi Arabian national, disappears into the crowds of Manhattan, it’s up to Fisk and his partner, Krina Gersten, to find him before the celebrations begin.

Watching each new lead fizzle, chasing shadows to dead ends, Fisk and Gersten quickly realize that their opponents are smarter and more agile than any they have ever faced. Extremely clever and seemingly invisible, they are able to exploit any security weakness and anticipate Fisk’s every move...and time is running out.

Outstanding Audio Book

If you could sum up The Intercept in three words, what would they be?

Excellent Mystery Audiobook

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes! Excellent character development. Never know who the Terrorist was until 80 percent of the book was read, Multi levels of deception and mystery. Excellent storyline with layers to think about and digest. Plot gives you lots to think about in to day's world.

What does Peter Ganim bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

What a wonderful book read by a great narrator. Varies voices and easy to listen vocal tones.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the true terrorist was exposed and caught.

Any additional comments?

Great story teller from TV turned book author. Great job.!!!!

great start

This is a good start to a new series. Looking forward to the next book. Nice, competent protagonist. Seems real and plausible.

A book

This "review" is being written exclusively to satisfy Audible's stupid and ridiculous decision to require a review to rate books.

Page turner

The book has a good plot that, just like a good Law and Order episode, goes in directions you don't anticipate in the early stages. I would definitely listen to subsequent books in the Jeremy Fisk series as they appear, which I hope they do. I'd have to agree with an Amazon reader who said it lacked a bit of emotion, but it was still better than average for me. All very forgivable for a first novel!

Dick Wolf

At any time of day or night, any day of the week, someone in my house is watching a Dick Wolf TV show on the TV or on the laptops. So, when I saw Dick Wolf had written books, I picked up both immediately. This guy has created the best and longest running TV shows in history and obviously employs great writers, so this was an easy choice for me.

I'm glad I did! This was a book with non-stop adventures, questions, suppositions, jinks, and sharp turns. Highly recommended!

Many twists and turns and entertwining stories.

One of the best mysteries ever. Great story and well read. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Long and Flat

I have watched all of the shows in the original Law & Order series, so I was excited about this book written by Wolf. I wasn't expecting it to be like the L&O series, but as a hugely successful creator and producer I did expect a quick paced, exciting story filled with snide remarks throughout the story.

There were parts where the writing brought to life the characters and had the punch of a L&O episode. And I thought the plot had a lot of potential, but something got lost in the story as a whole. I thought the writing was overly detailed and depictive of every character's move. Combined with the flat narration I felt like I was listening to someone reading a recipe step by step. This eleven hour audiobook felt a 25 hour book that was never going to end. Other than the flatness of the reading, the narrator had a pleasing voice and did do well in differentiating the voices of the main characters.

Not sure if I will buy book 2 and 3 of this series unless other reviewers say the writing and pace of the book have improved.
