Publisher's summary

The adventure continues in the Ranger's Apprentice companion trilogy!

Hal and the Herons have done the impossible. This group of outsiders has beaten out the strongest, most skilled young warriors in all of Skandia to win the Brotherband competition. But their celebration comes to an abrupt end when the Skandians' most sacred artifact, the Andomal, is stolen - and the Herons are to blame.

To find redemption they must track down the thief, Zavac, and recover the Andomal. But that means traversing stormy seas, surviving a bitter winter, and battling a group of deadly pirates willing to protect their prize at all costs. Even Brotherband training and the help of Skandia's greatest warrior may not be enough to ensure that Hal and his friends return home with the Andomal - or their lives.

Follows the "Rangers Apprentice" formula

Would you consider the audio edition of The Invaders to be better than the print version?

I really enjoyed the audio version on this book, however, I haven't read the print version, so I cannot really provide much of a comparison.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I really didn't have a favorite character, as the overall book was well written and the character development was fantastic.

What about John Keating’s performance did you like?

His voice and demeanor on the book is something that my family searches for. There are two performers on the Rangers Apprentice series, and John's voice conveyed the characters so much better.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

no

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this book. The first installment of this book was quite slow moving, which almost turned me off of the series, however, the character development had continued into the second book, which provided a decent amount of depth. The way John F. captures the different personalities and their interactions really impressed me, which led me to listen to this book and definitely the next one when it comes out.

First battle for the young Brotherband

What did you love best about The Invaders?

The inventive side of the young boys.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The old one armed man, as he is so talented.

Have you listened to any of John Keating’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not bad, he did a good job. He is one of my favorite voice actors.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yeah when the young boy got hit by an arrow in the boat. It was very predictable that it would happen but it was also a scene that had to happen in one way or another to move the character development forwards.

Any additional comments?

Good book. Listened to the whole thing in one shot. Love the inventive side of the characters. The story line is quite predictable it however still holds my attention.

Good story

Great continuation to the brother band chronicles series. The narration was superb as usual. This is a great young adult adventure story. I recommend the first book in the series to start. But it's not necessary to have listened to the ranger apprentice books.

Even Better than the First

Flanagan has upped his suspense game in the Brother Band series. I will always love will but these Scandians also have a special place in my heart!
