Good behind the scenes info

Jackie is a favorite, from back in the day when Howard was listenable. His insights of those days, his departure from the Stern show, and revelations about an icon's motivations are worth the listen.

Jackie the Jokeman delivers.

The Stern show was never the same after Jackie The Joke Man left. Between drug and alcohol fueled nonsense and everybody ganging up on each other, even today I can't even listen to it anymore. Who wants to listen to a guy in the morning that drives a limo, C'mon !! Today's show is solely based around interns and the staff totally unfunny Howard Stern really went down the tubes when he hired someone to run this as a corporation instead of the gang it used to be. Jackie Fred Howard Robin and Gary were truly the core component that made that whole show funny the addition of Billy West was pure genius. I miss the old radio show that used to be funny where Howard would throw in an interview or two here and there I could basically go to any other platform and listen to interviews but I missed the comedy that's what Howard Stern is lacking these days true comedy he's just not funny anymore and obviously he's not funny on his own. It is quite evident, Jackie and Fred were the show.... Jackie holds nothing back in this book. I LOVED it !

Wow What A Great Storyteller Dressed as Jokeman

What did you love best about The Joke Man?

Jackie has always been a great storyteller and he didn't disappoint this time either. He was able to tell some stories from growing up to his family to the most important parts of his life working with the Howard Stern show. I am a Howard Stern fan, and though I would tell you that I was a bigger fan later in Stern's lifetime on the radio, mostly on Sirius/XM, I found that Jackie's book was so great. If you are a Stern fan you will love this book. If you are not a Stern fan you will love this book. If you just want a storybook that has some wonderful stories and can make you laugh, this is a book for you.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jackie of course, there isn't any other character in a book that Jackie writes, as you would imagine everything is about him. But that being said, I do think he did a great job of telling you about behind the scenes from the biggest and most popular radio program of all time. Sharing stories about Stuttering John and Gary BabaBooey and of course Hop Along Howard. It is such a great set of behind the radio scene stories it will make you laugh throughout the book.

What about Artie Lange and Jackie Martling ’s performance did you like?

Artie was typical Artie, I would guess he read this while either sitting on the toilet or he was about to score some heroin and then shared his experiences with Jackie, who made Artie super famous because he made the boneheaded decision to leave the greatest job of all time. Jackie did a great job with telling the stories and you could tell he was not forced and it was like he was just hanging out having from beers and telling these stories on the beach.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The stories about Jackie trying to break into show business were great, and you could tell the downfall of his career was a struggle for him to come to grips with. It is still uncertain if he has really come down to earth about what he did to his career and how much these decisions he made really altered the trajectory of his life, for the worse, or better.

Any additional comments?

I strongly recommend this audiobook for anyone that wants to laugh and have a good time. If you are a Howard Stern fan, or radio fan, or comedy fan, you will love these stories.

Interesting story

Jackie is a throwback and an intelligent fella. He comes across as sincere and a fun loving bohemian. This book is not the scathing tell all that I was hoping for, but it also was not a fluff piece. I came into reading this book expecting to hear how Jackie was wronged, yet came away feeling it was more of Jackie’s fault why we did not get more of the original team. How can Howard (who’s thinking 10 moves ahead) hold up his show for 2 months while Jackie sits out? By the time Jackie realized his blunder, Howard had devised another strategy. Jackie should have signed with Don Buchwald and today he would be worth 25M+ more.
The book jumps about frenetically a bit especially at the end but overall I listened to every sentence. I come away genuinely liking Jackie quite a bit.

Great Book and Story!!!!

Loved hearing the joke man tell it like it is. Jackie leaves it all out there and gives you a great story full of laughs, fun and debauchery. Shout out to the joke line 516-922-WINE. Great stuff.
