About this listen

Debuted and currently #4 on the New York Times audio bestseller list!

Fifty-something David Spade is letting it all hang out. Older (yes), wiser (debatable), in A Polaroid Guy in a Snapchat World, the actor, comedian, and SNL alum reflects on his life then and now through a series of candid and hysterical (and occasionally cringe-worthy) takes on everything from why it’s getting harder to date younger women, to what it’s like being a dad now, to suddenly being the “old guy” on set.

Whether he’s musing on the alarming ease of breaking up over text (he’s done it), feuding with a teenage Internet celebrity (spoiler alert, he lost), or dealing with the friend from high school who became his full-time plus-one, when the star of Joe Dirt and Just Shoot Me unleashes his biting wit and dirty mind on the general freakiness of middle-age, he’s in a league of his own (not to be confused with A League of Their Own).

Written and performed for the Audible experience, Spade’s new comic memoir takes listeners along for the sometimes embarrassing and always hilarious ride of getting older in our fleeting “Snapchat World”.

Editorial Review

Middle-aged but still not quite a grown-up

I remember watching SNL during the David Spade years and marveling at how he managed to get away with being so cocky. He toed—and often crossed—the line of good taste, but as a young guy on comedy’s biggest stage, he pulled it off. So what happens when the 50+ year old comedian tries to navigate the world of internet celebrities and dating girls whose parents used to watch him on TV? The results are awkward, cringeworthy, and hilarious. As a new dad rounding the corner on 40 myself, I’m looking forward to learning how to stay sharp as the world tells me I’m losing my edge. —Scott J., Audible Editor

If you like David Spade the way I do, you will not want this book to end. It’s not only that the material was funny, but that it was delivered in Spade’s unmatched style. Sometimes he even cracked himself up a little, which is totally endearing. This is the first time I have downloaded an audiobook, but for Spade, anything!!

Didn’t want it to end!

David Spade is such a good dude. Seriously super good book with a great and very funny story. Thanks David Spade for being so cool and for giving us a glimpse into you’re truly memorable and amazing life - I’m 54 so you know I get you and love you man. Way to make you’re beautiful momma proud. My man!

Such a great guy and an even better story

This book is basically Spade giving his take on various things all over his life. I haven't seen anything from Spade outside of the '90s (SNL and a HBO special) but enjoy his funny and snarky storytelling.

loved it, sad when it was done... a true tell that I really love a book. it's your usual Spade... if you love him, you'll love the book. as always, not for the easily offended or those who don't like 'bad' language! i really appreciated him going a little deeper... heh... into what makes him tick in this book!

awesome

Decent book and definitely started off strong, but if you hate his roles on Just Shoot Me and/or Rules of Engagement, I'd skip it. He went way too hard on the constant mouth hole sound effects, but I'm a fan so I'd still recommend it. Just maybe have a backup for when you get sick of him, and you will.

Only listen if you are already a fan of Spade.
