About this listen

The international best-selling author is back with a pause resisting tale of the origins of the peaceful warrior

In the heart of 19th century Tsarist Russia an orphaned boy born of both Jewish and Cossack blood desperately seeks to find a place in a dangerous world. Sergei Ivanov’s (Socrates') journey from a military academy to America is a spellbinding and tragic odyssey of courage and love. This riveting novel reveals how a boy became a man, how a man became a warrior, and how a warrior discovered peace. From his birth, this boy - Sergei Ivanov - is destined to become the peaceful warrior and sage who changed the life of Dan Millman and millions of readers and listeners worldwide.

loved it. Makes me want to look into my own family history because we all have stories from wherever we came from.

One for the history books

I have read a lot of books in my life.. Some of them stand out as being exceptional. "The Journeys of Socrates" is the one book that stands above them all. Read "The Way of the Peaceful Warrior" first, also by Dan Millman, or at least watch the movie. It will give you context that you will appreciate when you read this one. Both are excellent books!

Best book I've ever read!

This is my favorite book ever, but read it also because this version is slightly abridged

Life changer

Once I become accustomed to the Narrator's speaking style during the reading of this book, I found myself addicted to the story of Sergei. I hard a difficult time pausing to eat or sleep. I became hungry, hungry for more chapters, and hungry to hear what lie ahead. I felt as if I were traveling along with Sergei each and every step.
My only regret was that the story came to an end. How I wish I had a mentor like Sergei.

Fascinating!

If you could sum up The Journeys of Socrates in three words, what would they be?

Here, Now, In-The-Moment

What did you like best about this story?

All of the life lessons. The only important time is here and now. The joy, happiness and peace in life comes from the journey, not the destination. Many more.

What does Sam Tsoutsouvas bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Calming voice and tempo that is consistent with the theme of the book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The many moments demonstrating Socrates' resiliency.

Wonderful story with deep life lessons

What a captivating book and real story. So well descripted so powerful. This is easily a favorite of mines with the author Dan Milllman. Close but the height of Sacred Journey of the Peaceful Warrior started me on my path so of course it cannot exceed that one but of the 4/5 I have read this one’s up there

I love how the universe weaves our stories…

I read "The Way of the Peaceful Warrior" prior to "The Rise of Socrates". These books radiate deep into my soul as if The Universe & God meant for me to hear their messages exactly at this moment in my life. They have woken up to life on mpre levels than I can begin to describe. The philosophies & inspirations drive every principle that I put into my company, my life's work, & my time I have here on this beautiful world. Thank you!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I already recommended it to a friend, simply because it is a brillient and amazing story.

What did you like best about this story?

The Truth, that much of it was true life experience.

What three words best describe Sam Tsoutsouvas’s voice?

Wise Grandfather Teacher

If you could take any character from The Journeys of Socrates out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Sergei Ivanov. A cool and calm, strong and wise martial artist, regardless of his age, I probably would try to seduce him after dinner!

Any additional comments?

I was so shocked of Dan's revelation at the end. I read his first book, The Peaceful Warrior a long time ago, and just didn't see the connection coming at the end.

Wise Lessons within Teachings!
