About this listen

Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the Oregon have undergone many hair-raising adventures before - but never one quite like this.

Jungles come in many forms. There are the steamy rain forests of the Burmese highlands. There are the lies and betrayals of the world of covert operations. And there are the dark and twisted thoughts of a man bent on near-global domination. To pull off their latest mission, Cabrillo and his remarkable men and women must survive them all.

A devastating new weapon unleashed in 13th-century China... a daring rescue in the snowbound mountains along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border... a woman gone missing in the jungles of northern Thailand and Myanmar... for Cabrillo and company, all of these events will come together - leading to the greatest threat against US security that the country has ever known.

Old school but hi tech adventure

If you could sum up The Jungle in three words, what would they be?

Adventure, fun, glory.

What other book might you compare The Jungle to and why?

Good one. It's the typical Cussler. A basic succes formula. But other writers in the same genre use simular formula's. So the difficulty is the amount of books to chose from.

What about Jason Culp’s performance did you like?

Pleasant voice to listen to, no excessive enthousiasme nor monotome droning , enough variation between the characters, in short, fine by me.

If you could rename The Jungle, what would you call it?

Back to the Saltmines. Or Ruby Intelligence.

Any additional comments?

Even if I have most, if not all Cussler books in my paper and/or digital library, I think i'll add them , as far as possible, to my Audible Library.

It's an action novel, and very American

It's an action-novel. As though the author have seen Die Hard too many times. If you like that, then that's fine.

It actually tries to be a crime-thriller though, sucking you in by hiding information and make you wondering what's going on - just like Dan Brown is so good at. And Clive Cussler does this well in the first one-third of the novel. After that it becomes a bit predictable, full of cliches etc.

Be aware, its a very American novel. And very post-9/11. I'm European and study International Relations, and there are some things in this book that are just waaaay off.

But still, it's enjoyable. Good narration. It's easy, like watching a block buster. But not something to remember.
