It was amazing

it was such an interesting book and when I finished it I felt so accomplished it was one of those things where I could read a whole chapter in one sitting and there like an hour it was so amazing it was incredible there was those chapters that were just amazing and then of course there was the not so good ones but they were still really good 💜🤩 this was the best book I’ve ever read in my life and my favorite chapters were the white seal and RIKKI-TIKKI-TAVI.. I love this book

Not The Disney Version

Interesting to listen to, entertaining. From Kipling's original story; not the kid-friendly Walt Disney animated version. Peter Batchelor gives a commendable performance with voice changing and expressive emotion. If you are into the classics, this is worth your time.

Great for kids and adults

Where does The Jungle Book rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

My kids were hesitant at first, but loved it. And frankly i enjoyed it and didn't want to miss it so made time to listen with it together.

Great narration. The voices were simple

but very consistent. A nicely narrated authentic version of an imaginative story. Lots of folklore and plain language. Stories from this time period are always nice to listen to because the vocabulary is very descriptive and the grammar is wonderful. Love British narrators.

a classic familiar in many ways

a classic that has lost much of its freshness and appeal. But because part of this tale has entered pop culture either directly or indirectly, there is an haha sense of discovery when reading this.

Classic Story, Poor Narration

I adore this story and the narrator has a nice voice, but the way he enunciates things makes large portions of the reading unintelligible. I had to purchase a different version to enjoy the whole story.

Talk Talk Talk Talk

I did not enjoy this at all. It was mostly talk. The animals loved to have meetings and discuss. I don't know how a kid could enjoy this and the narrator kind of annoyed me. I could see where Disney could make it into something enjoyable, but not the written form.

Departing from the Praise

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I can see from the reviews that my opinion is in the minority- so I suppose nearly everyone else.

What was most disappointing about Rudyard Kipling’s story?

I guess the book is outdated for today's young audience. I was looking forward to listening to this with my five year old (maybe it was my fault for not understanding that this book is for a more mature audience- but I don't know how one would know that). Primarily, the book is racist, sexist, and brutal which are not good themes for impressionable children. I'm sure I would love the book if it I was only concerned about myself. Additionally, the performance was really droll- my children would fall asleep right away. We listen to audio books together every night after reading and falling asleep during a book is very unusual for them- they usually hang on every word.

Would you be willing to try another one of Peter Batchelor’s performances?

I don't think so.

Any additional comments?

If you are thinking this is a family book, I would wait until the children are mature enough to understand that the themes in this book are outdated and can just enjoy the literature instead of worrying about the messages it might be conveying.
