About this listen

A short story by N.C. Reed.

A group of people evacuating ahead of civil unrest amid a societal collapse find themselves lost, alone, and on the run, deep in the woods of rural West Tennessee. With snow on the ground, no skills, and not much more than the clothes on their backs, the group is in dire straits and probably won't last the coming night.

Until out of the falling snow, a lone figure approaches. Over the next few days their silent benefactor will keep them safe, fed, and warm while helping them acquire the know-how to care for themselves. The thing is, he's just a kid....

Great story!

This was a great little story. I love that it tells a hopeful story of humanity (while being true to the ugly side as well) rather than the dismal shit every other series drones on about. Yes, there are people who try to take advantage of others in a crisis…but humanity thrives as a species because we work together better than any other species on the planet…which is why we’re at the top. I recommend the read, and the author.

this duo are my favorite by far

been listening to audible books since they were still on tapes. so 34 years plus. I've heard a lot of authors and a lot of readers and boy these two have a gift together.
the story itself is excellent. I gave one star off because you're not allowed to do fractions. this is because the final scene ending disingenuous and corny. up until then the story felt inclusive which is how the future will need to be.

can't wait to listen to the next book by these guys.

Loved this short book!

This was a great short read and I wish the author would continue it with additional but much longer books with these same people and along these same topics. One of my very favorite authors and also one of favorite narrators. I loved Odd Billy Todd written by NC Reed and this great narrator and I’d buy every book written like these two books. I’d give both books 10+ stars with the exception of how short this one was only because I wanted so much for this to be a very long book to enjoy. Please keep writing this type of book and hopefully more of this one. I’ll buy all that you write and make audible for my listening pleasure for us older folks with eyes that have trouble reading.

Completely perfect!

This got down to the point of what really matters….God & family! It reminds us that, no matter how bleak the circumstances may look, we still must keep our priorities in check!

Fun little story

Reminded me a lot of the audio book "Odd Billy Todd", which I would also recommend. Story of a neighborhood that left after unspecified trouble after a apocalyptic event. The neighbors deal with different personalities and are saved by "the Kid". The kid is a little weird and quiet but without his help the neighbors would have died. The Narrator was easy to listen to but could have added a little more emotion. I'd recommend the book for a short listen,

Short Survival Story

Excellent example of the short story format. The character presentation, scenarios, interactions were pertinent to the core of the story.

Fast read

The only bummer is that this book is so short.
Like in Odd Billy Todd a sickness kills off the people and we find a small group of survivors trying to make it in a Tennessee winter and not doing well; that is until a teen finds them and shows them how to survive in the new world. Another great book by N.C. Reed!

The Kid

A very good short story by N.C. Reed. A very talented writer. If you liked this, I recommend you listen to ODD BILLY TODD,
