About this listen

A broken ex-detective. A corrupt chief of police. A merciless drug lord.

And a missing child.

Running from a world which wants him dead, ex-detective Sergeant Jake Pettman journeys to the isolated town of Blue Falls, Maine, home of his infamous murderous ancestors.

But Jake struggles to hide from who he is, and when a child disappears, he finds himself drawn into an investigation that shares no parallels to anything he has ever seen before.

Held back by a chief of police plagued and tormented by his own secrets, Jake fights for the truth.

All the way to the door of Jotham MacLeoid.

An insidious megalomaniac who feeds his victims to a Killing Pit.

And the terrifying secrets that lie within.

The Killing Pit is an adrenaline-pumping crime thriller novel from the Amazon best-selling author of One Last Prayer for the Rays, and the DCI Yorke series. Perfect for fans of Chris Carter, James Patterson, Chris Brookmyre, and Stuart Macbride.

Running from your past is not always a good idea. Jake has found himself in another mess, which takes him on the dark side of a town that wants him to leave or die. This book is full of suspense and thrills at every turn, the narrator is awesome and the characters are well developed. A must read!

I listened to this title for about 45 minutes and then couldn't take the narration anymore and had to finish it on my Kindle. I have lived in Maine for 20+ years and never heard anyone here speak the way Mr. Parsons narrates the characters. He also misses on the British accent of the MC. If you're looking for a grizzly murder mystery, this could be a good choice, but don't listen to the Audible version.

Difficult to Listen to the Narrator

I have generally enjoyed Wes Markin’s books, tho they can be quite grizzly and violent. And I love Aubrey Parsons’ gravelly voice and look for new series that he narrates. But. This one. Whew—ee. Mr. Parsons needs to learn how a New Englander, at least, speaks. Maine is different, but I’d be okay with a generic NE accent— not the hillbilly Southern twang he applied to the inhabitants of this new series. Very distracting! And, with the graphic descriptions of dog fighting, I’d recommend taking a pass, at least on the audio version. Maybe reading it would be better since you could skim the truly horrific animal cruelty scenes.

Good Mystery. Horrible Maine Accent.

Ridiculous premise, and terrible presentation. The narrators voices were laughable and bush league. I would send this back if it were allowed.
