Publisher's summary

The war of eternal darkness is about to commence on Valaris. One battle is already behind the team, the disastrous events upon Ardosia, and now it is time to look ahead to the stability of Valaris, or the same fate awaits her.

Hidden from humankind are 14 sacred Valleur sites, each built upon a node of power. Vannis of the Valleur advocates unveiling the sites to restore balance to the earth, balance he claims will aid them in the fight against Margus.

The Darak Or has other ideas, and unleashes his soltakin....

In the north, Averroes discovers her true past, and she and Kylan run the gauntlet of the Maze. Nearby Kisha, Mordan, Cristi, and Samson prepare the clans of old for the darkness about to befall them.

In the south, Vannis, Rayne, and Saska continue the unveiling process at the ruins of the White Palace, along with the charismatic little Falcon, Phet.

Taranis and the Guardians delve arcane ritual in the Dome to find answers to the ending of soltakin, and wonder when the dara-witch Infinity will bring her Darkling Horde into the mix.

McSee, unmasked as traitor, meets the crazy Lanto and they hatch a bold plan, one set into action during an epic summer storm, involving a pirate and ancient loot.

Rayne begins the internal battle that will change all. It began for him on Ardosia when he touched Vannis only to release blue sparks between them.

The ruling house is almost extinct. How, therefore, does a Valla recognize the blood for the future? By the blue flame of trebac. Kinfire.

The legendary Vannis is kin to him, but there is more in store for Rayne. The kinfire tree is larger with branches hidden in its foliage, a condition Rayne suspects, a greater truth he must reveal.

Will this truth aid against the approaching darkness?

Breathtaking Epic Fantasy Adventure

THE KINFIRE TREE (Lore of Arcana book 2) by Elaina J. Davidson is the continuation of a breathtaking epic fantasy adventure. Flawlessly written and beautifully imagined, this story, along with its generous cast of unique and intriguing characters, along with some of the most heart-stopping evil creatures, is among the best I have ever read in this genre.

A bit faster paced than the first book in the series, THE INFINITY MANTLE (Lore of Arcana book 1), this tale gives more insight into the individual characters, particularly Rayne, as well as moving the story along with enough detail and action to keep the reader enthralled from the first page to the last. (Which,I must say, is an accomplishment in itself, considering the length of the novel). Yet, when the end did come, I found myself ready and enthused to jump right into book 3. Lore of Arcana is simply such a superb epic that you never want it to end.
Suffice it to say that recently when the audiobook version of this fantastic book was released, I jumped at the chance to listen to it and post a review. I honestly didn’t think this tale could get any better, but I found out differently, and listening to this gem is addictive. Completely mesmerized by the narrator’s reading of this novel, I actually felt as if I was an observer watching the story unfold before my eyes. What an amazing experience!

I highly recommend THE KINFIRE TREE to everyone, especially to those who love epic fantasy. Don’t miss out on this mesmerizing tale. Order your copy today and enjoy! But don’t stop there, get the audiobook, too, and expand your enjoyment of this great tale to the fullest.

A lot going on too!

This review is for both the 1st and 2nd book in the Lore of Arcana series.
First let me say I found the narrator to be great at bringing the characters into focus in my mind. His voice was smooth, clear and distinct.
Now, as for the story, in the 1st book I felt it was slow to start. At times confusing with all the player's involved. The 2nd book did pick up some, less confusing.
Still I had to rewind occasionally, cause if i got sidetracked I was lost as to what and who.

good follow up

This is an good continuation, if you liked the first book this this one is great. It's a bit faster in the early chapters it's still a bit odd with the switch to third person, but overall a solid installment in the series all the things we liked about book one are still present. The dialogue is still smart the times of planning and plotting are intelligent and character driven, the world is interesting.

Lots going on

This is the second book I have read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another. This book starts up right where the other left off without much overlap. I found I became lost a few times in this book as well, but when I rewound and focused more, I became engrossed in the story again. I think it has to do with the multiple groups of characters and needing to understand the various worlds and areas the story takes place. There is a lot going on and I’m looking forward to seeing how the story continues to unfold.

This is the second book I have listened to by this narrator ( Thomas Bestwick ). I hope he continues to narrate the rest of this series since I look forward to listening to him with book 3. I typically increase the listening speed to about 1.5-1.75x but found I needed to increase this book to 1.9x speed to get the same result. His narration is clear and well performed. He uses different voices and accents to differentiate the characters. He even does the children’s voices well.

There are no explicit sex scenes, or excessive violence. I don’t recall any swearing.

Awesome follow up!!

Wonderful storytelling! If you’re a Wheel of time fan you’ll enjoy this series. Magic, swords, specters, and even a Woman Pirate. What more can you pack into a fantasy novel. I can’t wait to see where the story goes.

Mr Bestwick was fantastic and flawless. I will be finding more of his work.

Thank you for the opportunity to review this audiobook which I received free at my request for an unbiased review.
