Publisher's summary

In this highly anticipated sequel to the New York Times best-selling The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, Felicity Montague must use all her womanly wits and wiles to achieve her dreams of becoming a doctor - even if she has to scheme her way across Europe to do it. A must-have for fans of Mackenzi Lee’s extraordinary and Stonewall Honor-winning novel.

A year after an accidentally whirlwind grand tour with her brother Monty, Felicity Montague has returned to England with two goals in mind - avoid the marriage proposal of a lovestruck suitor from Edinburgh and enroll in medical school. However, her intellect and passion will never be enough in the eyes of the administrators, who see men as the sole guardians of science.

But then a window of opportunity opens - a doctor she idolizes is marrying an old friend of hers in Germany. Felicity believes if she could meet this man he could change her future, but she has no money of her own to make the trip. Luckily, a mysterious young woman is willing to pay Felicity’s way, so long as she’s allowed to travel with Felicity disguised as her maid.

In spite of her suspicions, Felicity agrees, but once the girl’s true motives are revealed, Felicity becomes part of a perilous quest that leads them from the German countryside to the promenades of Zurich to secrets lurking beneath the Atlantic.

Critic reviews

"Moira Quirk gives crisp, purposeful voice to Felicity Montague, a young Englishwoman in the 1700s with the single-minded ambition to become a doctor - a path that seems hopelessly closed to her.... Quirk makes the most of her portrayal of Johanna, whose high, girlish voice rises and falls with her emotions and belies her strength and ingenuity....listeners will be rooting all the way for these formidable women who are determined to carve out lives for themselves on their own terms." Best of 2018

We thoroughly enjoyed both the story and the narration. We're left earnestly hoping for another book in the series.

Beautiful, funny and full of twists

Very well written story. If you loved Monty and Percys story than you will love Felicity, Johannas and Simms story! Full of twist and women who are heroic in those challenging times.

Another Home Run!

The sequel to The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue did not disappoint. I loved Monty and Percy so much, so I did initially worry about what I would do without them. But, it turns out that Felicity is just as witty and endearing as the two of them. Full of adventure and girl power, this is the perfect companion to book 1 and leaves me excited for the 3rd book next!

Audio book narrator was outstanding!

Felicity is wonderful

I like that she has the courage to pursue her dreams and that she doesn’t accept the easy way out of trouble. The marriage proposal she refuses would have made her and the young man terribly unhappy in the long run. I think she will be quite happy and challenged living the life of a pirate.

Simply Amazing!

I adored this book! It made me laugh and cry. This book gave me every thing I could have wanted from a sequel to her first in the series. I hope she writes more, as I truly love these books!

Absolutely amazing

I became a huge fan of the first part, the reading was strikingly perfect and Monty was probably the best character I’d read about, with Monty and Percy’s chemistry being unmatchable so I thought this might be tough to like. But I was completely wrong. It is unbelievable that a sequel so different managed to be as great of a book, and performance that I can’t wait to listen to both of these books again.

Mackenzi Lee wins again

I was so so so excited to pick this up after I read TGGTVAV, but for the first half, I was convinced I wouldn’t like it. Felicity’s story started off so slowly, and I honestly thought I would wind up giving it two stars if it didn’t pick up. But it did! I love Felicity’s voice and the way she always manages to find herself, and her friends are awesome. There was an excellent mix of humor and angst that had me laughing and crying within moments of each other. If only the plot hadn’t taken so long, this would have been a five star review!
