Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: If he doesn't play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone's business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he's been emailing with, will be compromised.

With some messy dynamics emerging in his once tight-knit group of friends and his email correspondence with Blue growing more flirtatious every day, Simon's junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated. Now change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he's pushed out - without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he's never met.

Featured Article: The Best Young Adult Audiobooks to Listen to as a Grown Woman

For some reason, a lot of people equate "growing up" with "growing serious." But while interests may change over time, age does not have to be the deciding factor in what games you play, what movies you watch, or what books you enjoy. The young adult audiobooks on this list are truly timeless: grownup listeners can relate to YA classics in a whole new way or find new favorites among more recent offerings.

Great Novel

This novel provides layers of silky texture to a teen coming out story in the early 21st century. Ms. Albertalli’s prose is deceptively simple, but its accuracy in description, dialogue, and drama reveals a different story. This is a heartwarming, funny, and worthwhile novel that is well worth your time.

A Beautiful Coming of Age Story

#Booktubeathon Challenge - Read a book to movie adaptation and watch the movie.

I must say that I really enjoyed this coming of age story. Simon is a gay boy that is dealing with what would happen if he became an openly gay teen. As a parent I would hope to deal with a situation like this in a similar fashion as Simon and Blue's parents. I think this story gives young adults hope that family and friends are willing to understand their struggles with sexuality. I hope that the movie will be just as uplifting and look forward to watching it.

This specific video review (book and movie) will be included in the August 2018 wrap-up.

So Good!!

Very real and relatable. It's a romance, mystery, comedy (I mean laugh out loud), drama and coming of age all in one. If you want a good read and a good time definitely listen to this one! Can't wait for the movie!!
