About this listen

Dorothea Benton Frank is one of America's most insightful writers, weaving highly addictive tales of the conundrums of life with hilarity and heat. Now, in the Land of Mango Sunsets, Frank gives us one woman's journey toward a hard-won truth: that life isn't always what it appears to be, and the sooner you realize that pride won't keep you warm at night, the happier you will be.

Meet Miriam Elizabeth Swanson, in a full-blown snit, buoyed by a fabulous cast who run the gamut from insufferable to wonderful. Miriam spins out from the revolving door of her postured life as a Manhattan quasi-socialite while she thirsts - no, starves - for recognition. How did she become what she hates the most and what does she endure to realize it? And where are the answers? It takes a few spins, dips, and one spectacular fall before Miriam gets her head on straight. Then, in a whoosh, she's off to the enchanted and mysterious land of Sullivans Island, deep in the low country of South Carolina.

Told straight from the heart in her vivid, highly entertaining style, The Land of Mango Sunsets just might be Frank's finest work to date. If you plan to listen to this book, don't make plans to do anything else for a while.

Sweet Story.

I liked the story; it was entertaining. The narrator was very good, but I probably would have chosen someone else to read. Ms. Savard made the lead character sound much older than I thought she'd be.

Lovely story

This is a lovely story, the kind of book you want to just put the world on hold and lay in your lounge chair listening to it until it is done. The narrator did a great job of creating that Southern feel to the story. I loved it.

Excellent read!

Being a Dorothea Benton Frank fan, this book did not disappoint! Great storyline around relationships with distant children, an ex-husband, her mother and friends.

awesome

If you like Dorothea Benton Frank's books, you will love this one also. She has her usual types of characters; the gay man who is her best friend, kids who aren't too close to her, etc. This is an excellent story of a woman finding herself and becoming comfortable with who she really is. Narrator is also excellent. This is one that you should get. If you like her others, you will like this one.

Loved Mango Dunsets

These books take me away to another place of southern comfort and walks on the sand... A slower time. Thanks to the author for bringing this wonderful feeling up north:)

Enjoyable listen

Many years ago I had the pleasure of living in coastal Georgia and the Carolinas. I am a beach bum at heart and I enjoy reading about the serenity the coastal lifestyle brings to people. I'll take the mid south beaches over Manhatten any time. The narrator started off sounding like she was from Tennesee but as the story progressed she must have visited further Southeast as her voice seemed to pick up a little more coastal accent.

If you like a nice story...

I really enjoyed this story. I had a hard time getting into the audio book at first because it took me some time to adjust to the readers southern accent. But once I got used to the accent it was such a good listen. Dorthea Benton Frank is a favorite of mine.
