About this listen

After the heir to a frozen-food fortune gets iced, Nero Wolfe’s right-hand man becomes a suspect: “Goldsborough does a masterly job with the Wolfe legacy” (Booklist).

When Lily Rowan doesn’t laugh at his jokes, Archie Goodwin knows something’s wrong. Her niece Noreen has been running around with Sparky Linville, a club-hopping bad boy who’s the terror of Manhattan nightlife, and the last time she went out with him, Noreen wasn’t herself when she came home. All she would tell her aunt was that she had been assaulted.

Springing into action, Goodwin waits for Linville outside of Morgana’s, a chrome-and-glass palace that sits like a wart on Second Avenue. They nearly come to blows, but Linville’s bodyguard intervenes, and Goodwin retreats to plan his next move. In the morning, Linville is dead, and Goodwin is the chief suspect.

For years he has helped rotund genius Nero Wolfe out of jams, and now it’s time for the master detective to return the favor.

I enjoyed the lack of violent and sexual scenarios and details. Wonderful!!!! For that…likeable leads. Enjoyed.

Good stories and characters

Good listen and good story. I read these, not so much for the mystery but for the character interaction. The personalities are so very different and in Gainsborough’s version of Nero Wolfe more rounded out as well as in the relationships. Especially with the supporting characters. Story line is not unsolvable and many times I know “who dunnit” sooner then later. But the fun, for me anyway, is in the getting there. I come away liking all the characters and especially the narrator, who does a fantastic job.

Another Good One From Gainsborough

The narrator captures Archie well, which is key to the Nero Wolfe stories. I’m thankful for Robert Goldsborough.

Good follow up to the real deal!

Yes there is a formula a foot hear about however the narration is spectacular the characters are Grand and the dialogue is Snappy exactly what I wish to be entertained with in a who done it of this type. I am glad there are more to listen ahead... 👍

Thus far, in all of the Nero Wolfe stories, I've yet to be able to discern who is thr quilty party. Additionally, I so love L. J. Ganser's voice variations per character. Lastly , I'm really loving Wolfe's vocabulary. I could listen to these stories forever. Wishing there were more.

Fantastic Nero Wolfe Mysteries

Why does this author try to Jerry Springer sooooo much? A disappointment, in my opinion.

Much more attempt to annoy readers than Stout.

The reading was ok, he's not great at different voices but he tries. The story though, I couldn't listen to it for long it was so bad.
