Publisher's summary

Time is running out for Ben Greenwood - not as an apprentice for the Royal Institute of Magic, but as the Head Guardian, secretly responsible for uniting Queen Elizabeth's Armour.

The dark elves are coming and the only chance of stopping them is to find the last Guardian and the final two pieces of the armour. They will be difficult to find and heavily protected, as they are the most important of all. To make matters worse, Ben's only clue to their whereabouts comes from a particularly unreliable and dangerous source.

With the dark elves massing an army and looking increasingly likely to begin their invasion, Ben faces a race against time to find the last Guardian and unite the final pieces of Elizabeth's Armour. But that isn't his only challenge - he will soon be forced to make a critical decision involving his closest friends, and even his oldest enemies, that might make or break the entire mission.

great story except when the author gets lazy

SPOILER ALERT

the overall story up to this book has been great. I even purchased the last three books immediately after finishing the first three. the mc can be a little irritating sometimes with his absolute lack of forsite but I'm able to contribute that to his young age. I love how all the side characters are written and the world building is wonderful.
now to the the problems, though few, I'm having that has prevented me from rating this 5 stars.

SPOILERS beyond this point
there have Been a few problems I've had through the series. it seems that the group goes from being fairly adept at solving whatever mystery is in front of them to absolutely useless with what should be immediately obvious. I understand the writer needs to give them some opposition but can't they just make the problem harder rather than dumb down the protagonists. the problem that I just can't get past though, is this whole situation with Josh. Ben suspects that he's a guardian. follows him to get the answers because he believes he's a guardian. then later, when Josh tells them he's a guardian, the whole group is flabbergasted. dear God it's a blemish on the whole series. I've been able to ignore or explain away every other problem I've had. sure, there's several plot twists that Ray Charles could have pointed at in the distance but there were a few I didn't see coming so I can forgive it. Ben was a bit of a Mary sue at first. always the one that solves and discovers but the writer gets better at letting the side characters shine. how be had trouble with throwing spells after using a wand he picks up from an institute member. sure, it wasn't a powerful spell but it was adequate. feeling like the writer back tracked on his abilities without rewriting the earlier scene. alright maybe it was a low level wand(not sure why it would be on a field agent) I'll ignore it. but the characters having knowledge then regaining that knowledge as though it's a knew situation. dear God, it bothers me.
I probably wouldn't be so frustrated if i hadn't enjoyed it up to this part but I do plan on continuing the series. just eanted to vent the frustration I felt at that entire chapter

A great clean read!

If you like adventure, magic, good vs. bad, and clean then this is the book for you.

NOTE FOR MOM’S: it does use the word “shit” but tastefully, and mostly when referring to actual animal shit. :)

Good Story, but series should be sold as boxed set

The books are good, but too short. The story is interesting, but not worth 1 credit/day. When I indulge in "brain bubble gum", AKA pleasure reading, I usually choose books that last 12+ hours so they take a few days to get through while I listen at work.

If the length of the book is not a concern to u this is a good listen. If you enjoyed the Harry Potter movies, then this is an excellent pick. I never read the HP books and never will, but I really enjoyed watching the movies with my kids. I almost quit the book when I realized the MC was a teen, but I'm glad I didn't. I was worried there'd be a bunch of teen angst and ridiculousness, but there wasn't. It's a good story that happens to to center around a young adult.
