About this listen
Emma Boone thought her dream job as the new Chief of Security on Lumina Station was going to be easy.
She didn’t expect corruption, incompetence, and murder.
Lumina was a “small-town” space station orbiting above an isolated, quiet, agri-colony planet specializing in exporting wheat, corn, bourbon, and a few other interesting, unusual commodities. When she took the job, she thought a small station with a tiny population of just over 4,000 people would be quiet compared to her last post.
Boone had barely unpacked her duffle before it all went wrong. She had thought way out here, there would be less death, and she would be able to keep her secrets.
She quickly found this far out on the edge of the universe; the only law was the law you brought with you.
Who could she trust? More accurately...
What could she trust?

Story
Cobb wanted a simple life. He wanted excellent steaks, great coffee, friends, and a quiet place to restore his favorite ship. Working for a recovery operation turned out to be the best place to find parts cheap. She had other plans for him. He wanted the staff of the deep space salvage ship, Oxcart, to treat him just like another member of the crew. Not the man he really was. Light years from Earth, he thought his secrets, his past, wouldn't matter. Especially not to her.

All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Story
Geoff and his friends live in Phocaea, a distant asteroid colony on the Solar System's frontier. They're your basic high-spirited young adults, enjoying such pastimes as hacking matter compilers to produce dancing skeletons that prance through the low-gee communal areas, using their rocket-bikes to salvage methane ice shrapnel that flies away when the colony brings in a big (and vital) rock of the stuff, and figuring out how to avoid the ubiquitous surveillance motes.

Story
The 200 years' (and counting) peace was a time of tranquility that hasn't been seen since...well, ever. Mankind in the Galactic Age had finally conquered war, so what was left for the military to do but drink and barbecue? That's the kind of military that Sergeant R. Wilson Rogers lived in before he left the fleet to become a smuggler. But it turns out that smuggling is hard. Like getting-arrested-for-dealing-with-pirates-and-forced-back-into-service kind of hard.

Oh Boy....There's a new Sheriff in Town
A fun and high-spirited time is had on a smaller, distant space station when the new security chief arrives to clean up town. And while she is amusing--she is definitely not amused. Enjoyed both the story and the narration.

Action Packed
The Law of Lumina was a good sci-fi adventure. I enjoyed the character of Emma Boone, who is the new, knowledgeable and capable, no-nonsense, Chief of Security for Lumina Station. The station had developed lax security habits under the watch of corrupt people in charge. She wants to be fair and helpful to the civilians who make the station their home. Boone had her work cut out for her, as there were layers upon layers of mysteries and double crosses for her to untangle.
There were great side characters. The story was filled out by Piper the engineer, Thai and Leeta the overpowered soldiers, and the crew that helped keep the stations running and safe.
This book had a good plot. It kept the action moving and the mysteries developing. This book is set in a world the author has written in before. I found this story to be a good entry point even though I hadn't read the other works. Maybe it was because Emma Boone was largely new to all of these characters and plots.
The narrator did a fantastic job of giving life to all of the different voices. There were a few mispronounced words that bothered me, but they were pretty rare.

Engaging characters and excellent voice narration.
I recently settled into an airline seat for a business trip to Europe and decided this would be a perfect opportunity to listen to something that was (hopefully) more interesting than the airline movie selections. Martin Wilsey delivered in spades! The characters were engaging and interesting, with a story that kept my interest at every turn. The excellent narration helped to keep the characters distinct in my mind. My only criticism of the narration was "stasis" was pronounced "staa-sis", but this might be a Queens English vs. American English conflict. ;)
My flight seemed so short as Iistened to this captivating story and as a result, I am starting the next book Amazon recommended from Martin WIlsey.

Sometimes the audio book is as good as reading it
I have already read the book, and enjoyed it. Having occasion to listen to an audio book, I figured what the hell.
Conclusion.... good call. Having the book read to you as you drive (and done well too), is a wonderful way to get it again.
If you are a fan of Mil-Sci-Fy or just plain old space operas, glom on Martin Wilsey's books. They are entertaining, very readable, and well written. Good characters, with plenty of action and believable scenarios.

Solid Audiobook, Solid Sci Fi, Great story
I rated this audiobook at about 93% out of 100%. The only thing that held me back from giving it 100% across the board was a slow start narration-wise. The first action scene, which was a pretty cool one, came out of the gate a little flat. But I guess I adjusted or it got better quick because I really started to dig it. This is a really good story and it was very easy to listen to. It kept me company on long walks. I read the book before listening, which I've been doing more and more. I find that I pick up on things in a different way when I hear them. In this book it was all the little technology details the author lays out casually but are really cool. The narrator did a great job with my favorite character - the AI! I'm always amazed how one person can do so many different voices. That helps in keeping track of all the characters. Great stuff!!

My first audible and I don't like the format.
I don't like the audio format. The very limited ability to jump back a couple pages or chapters to check a name or just re-listen. Other than that Mr. Lincoln how did you enjoy it?
The Law of Lumina in set in Mr. Wilsey's universe and is the continuation of a story started in his first book. The "Martiverse"? It is a universe I enjoy and look forward to exploring further. The pacing is fast and story is interesting. I could have done with a bit more character building or more distinction between the secondary and tertiary characters but that is a trade off with pacing so is also understandable. Lumina Station definitely gave me a bit of an Outland vibe, the Sean Connery 1981 movie, which is a definite win.
The narrator did a great job of intonation and emphasis which was my biggest concern in trying an audio book. Turns out it is the format, not the talent.

Fantastic story and performance
This book unfolded in a dramatic and suspenseful manner. It combined action, mystery, sci-fi in an incredible story that kept me riveted. There are so many possibilities for sequel books. The performance definitely added to the story.

Intense scifi mystery
Murder mystery on a space station! I liked the main character Emma Boone because she was competent and likable, and the supporting cast was full of interesting characters and villains. I also thought the space station setting was well done. There were a lot of great questions that kept me listening. I read this as an ebook first, and I think the narrator did a great job bringing Emma to life, and I found that I caught things in the audio version I missed while reading. The pacing was great and I enjoyed uncovering secret motives, betrayals, etc as I kept reading. As with all of the stories Wilsey has set in this universe, there are ample twists and turns to keep the reader entertained. This is my favorite of his books so far.
