Action and Adventure!

This is book two in The Adventures of Jason Lex series. If you haven't read book one, I'd recommend picking it up first! Book two begins with Jason training to be a Rampart Guard to protect the world from cryptids like Bigfoot and Cappas. After the events of the first book, Della is still severely depressed, so Jason's dad takes her to The League of Governors headquarters in London. They're hoping to get treatment for Della, but Jason's dad and Della disappear after they arrive.

Jason and Uncle Alexander hop a plane to London to find them, but things get even stranger. The passcode to get into League headquarters has been changed, and when they visit a friend of Uncle Alex's, they're attacked. Jason wakes up in the medical unit at League headquarters, where he's warned that things at the League aren't as they seem.

This was a great book for fans of the YA, adventure, and paranormal genres. It was an entertaining read that kept me hooked with twists and turns and betrayals! Jason is fourteen, but he faced choices and situations that would disturb an adult. He faced it maturely and that was refreshing. I loved Colleen, such a brave girl in a quiet way, and hope we get to see her again. Again, the identity of the 'big bad' was a surprise, and there were some revelations near the end that were pretty unexpected.

The narration was really well done, Brian Callanan performed voices for men, women, and younger children, and had a distinct voice for each of them. They fit the characters well, and I enjoyed his English accents. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

the adventure continues

The second installment of Jason Lex's adventures was quite a ride. Shocking twists, the evil that infiltrated the League of Governors HQ shows itself, the revelations about the various players makes this book even more exciting than the previous one, building the suspense to the end. And what an end, I didn't expect it to end like that at all, but it is a good ending.

Paranormal, fantasy and adventure fans, this is for you. PG though because of the few scenes that are a bit violent.

Mr. Callanan's performance was just as good as with the previous book. Loved the passion and care with which the various voices were selected in the first book and kept throughout this second one, they fit the characters. Looking forward to the next book.

Good Listen

This is the second book in the series and the listener would benefit from starting with the first. I didn't, but was still able to enjoy this one even without the back story. The narration was excellent and the pace was steady. It was a very interesting listen.

A grab for power, irrespective of who is hurt.

This series has been fantastic, with this story the best yet.
I ponder what age group this series is targeted at, as although the main character Jason Lex, is supposed to be 14, the situations represented may be traumatic for a person of that age, reading some of the scenarios portrayed.
The plot is dramatic and suspenseful, making it difficult to put down. I do other chores whilst listening to the audiobooks, so washing clothes and floors is no longer a chore. I found I read the night away, I was so engrossed.
Again, I admire and applaud the skills of the narrator, handling the various voices of the characters, with apparant ease, which adds so much to the enjoyment of reading.

Continuation - fun middle grade, fantasy adventure

This book continues the ‘adventures’, or in this case the “misadventures” of Jason Lex. Jason’s father and sister, Della, flew to London to seek counseling help at the League of Governors. Jason has cause to be concerned when he and his Uncle Alexander can’t reach his father by phone. They decide to follow to London to make sure everything is alright. They quickly learn that things are not all right.

Jason and his Uncle are attacked. When he awakes he is at the League and learns that Uncle Alexander is in a coma. A stranger sneaks him a secret message and Jason doesn’t know who he can trust. Jason struggles trying to determine how he can save his family, and the world, from enslavement by a super powerful, mind controlling enemy.

I am glad that I listened to book one before book two. It was a little hard and frustrating imagining Jason fighting alone. The story goes on quite a bit with danger and little hope of a positive resolution. This makes it a bit dark. Still, I enjoyed the helpful characters and wondering how the other creatures might help defeat the evil. Again, I think middle graders would enjoy the danger and excitement… and it is adequately entertaining for an adult as well.

Audio Notes: Brian Callanan again does a good job with the narration, giving voices to the characters. His strong narration makes the story a fun listening experience. I enjoyed listening to both books.

I received this audio title from the narrator through AudioBook Boom.

Exciting, fast paced, thrilling follow up

If you have not read book 1 - "The Rampart Guards" - then stop now, and go read or listen to them. Now! What are you waiting for? This book as well as "The Clan Calling" will not make much sense without reading it.

The League of Governors picks up where Rampart Guards left off, and then Wendy Terrien raises the stakes to a whole new level. This book I felt did a good job at keeping my reading and on the mental edge of my seat. The danger and feeling that Jason was up against overwhelming odds really added to the intensity of this book.

One thing I noticed more than I remember noticing in Book 1 is the slightly more mature edge in the books. There is light swearing, the topic of torture and murder though not explicitly described. Overall this did not bother me but may raise the age of readers I would recommend this book to.

Brian Callanan did an excellent job of narrating this book. He definitely created the exact right tone for the book which made immersion into the story much easier.

I needed books like this to read when I was a YA

Having missed the first book in the series, I started with this one and was happily thrown into Jason’s adventure in locating his dad and sister who had traveled to the League of Governors. Here Jason wakes up in a hospital room with every action he takes being carefully monitored and censored. Jason only wants to get well enough to begin the serum which will help him be a stronger guard but what is really going on?

The entire book was an enjoyable read with the first part pretty slow while creating the foundation and the last half was intense and thrilling! Brian Callanan did a superb job in narrating and portraying a teenage boy, various adults and Della, Jason’s sister which made the story flow flawlessly.

As an adult, the book was entertaining which is my main priority. I was given this audiobook free in return for my honest opinion. I base my own selections on reviews I read so I take this responsibility seriously.

Even better than book one

I had mixed feelings about the age of the hero after book one, and I still do to some extent, but that's resolving to some extent because of how well the books are written and how well Jason is coping with everything that's happening.

Speaking of happenings... there is a lot happening in this book, talk about big and complex, this story does not hold back. It's a trilling, grip the edge of your seat ride from beginning to end.

The characters are complex and the moral lessons within the story are compelling.

The narration is excellent, the character voices are great and the emotions of the characters and the story in general are conveyed.

Great story and interesting twists

I would suggest you listen to the first book in the series before tackling this one. Overall, the story had a great plot line and the twists and turns in the book were at times surprising. For a YA book it was a bit on the dark side and the choices that Jason had to make were at times heartbreaking. I was a bit surprised with the content but it made the story interesting and made me feel sorry for Jason and the choices he assumed he had to make and the bad feeling that went with some of those choices.

The narration was spot on and it was a great listen. I will be glad to listen to the first book in the series to fill in missing information that unlike other series I have read/listened to, wasn't back filled here....but the story was still a good one.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Start with book 1 if you haven't already!

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

First of all, I have to admit that I was really confused. I thought The League of Governors was the first of the series, since "The Clan Calling: The Adventures of Jason Lex, Chronicle 2" was listed as the NEXT book in the series... This is definitely a series better started with the first book, which, I say again, I was attempting to do when I picked this one up and failed... rant over... ANYWAY, going in, I didn't realize this was a YA series, but that's not always a bad thing as I did enjoy this book. The narrator was excellent, and story was entertaining, if a bit dark for a YA book. I'm currently debating if I should go back and read/listen to the ACTUAL first book of this series or just press on to the third book. Either way, I'm interested in more.
