Publisher's summary

Go further into the conspiracy....

Candle thought it was over. Back to the status quo. That's why, when a letter appears in his mailbox from someone he thought was dead, he's dragged back into the middle of the whole mess.

He'll have to scurry down to Texas to save the life of a man he doesn't even know, because if he doesn't, his wife and unborn child will again become targets.

The mystery spurring his quest grows deeper because everyone involved seems to be wearing a false face. And his supposedly benevolent employers keep pushing him further and further from the truth. Their ulterior motives have to be at the heart of this mess, but can Candle find out why?

The clock ticks mercilessly on as he hurries toward the Mexican border, all while trying to puzzle the reasons why he's been singled-out and what's driving all this death and destruction.

This second novella in the trilogy combines the action-packed chase thriller style with an amateur sleuth mystery, all told through protagonist Tucker Candle's unique and funny voice.

It wasn’t over

Not by a long shot! Tucker heads to Texas to settle his father’s estate and things go downhill (& sideways) quickly. Lots of action, adventure, and again many questions answered, but many more still a mystery. Looking forward to getting the answers in the last book

This book flew by for me...before I knew it, it was over.and I was like..WOW that was quick! I was super involved! Book 2 picks up where book 1 leaves off..Candle has rescued his wife...and things appear to be back to normal...and when Candle finds out his dad passed away, he has to make a trip to Texas again to settle his estate...before he goes he gets a mysterious letter from the passed away Kareem...asking him to protect his brother Omar...seems innocent right? Well everything goes crazy again causing poor Candle to have to run for his life and learning he works for a company that is super corrupt...and a family secret!!

Great Narration..and an awesome second book!!!

Even better than the first part

The Legend of Kareem continues the story that began with Wounded Animals and is part 2 of The Whistleblower trilogy.
Our protagonist, Tucker Candle, just wants to relax back home with his pregnant wife who is still recovering from the previous events, when he receives a letter from Kareem urging him to save his brother Omar. Thus, another adventure starts sending Tucker to Texas and on towards Mexico. This was one madcap road movie full of action and fantastic characters that Candle meets along the way. I loved his relationship and interactions with Omar.
I ended up listening to the entire audio book in one go again. Jim Heskett's writing is so engaging, and William Coon's narration so easygoing and fun to listen to, plus there's so much happening, there's never a good moment to pause. The plot is full of twists and turns, sad moments, funny moments and great dialogue. Candle has developed quite a bit since his previous encounter with the bad guys and is more confident and hero-like but his observations and musings are just as witty. What I really appreciate about this action adventure series is its unpredictability. There were plenty of developments that came as complete surprises, and as this part ends with further questions, I need part 3 to find out how it'll all end for Tucker Candle!

An action packed sequel.

Once again we find Candle in some trouble! After the events of the last book, all Candle wants to do is settle down and forget everything. His wife is coming home and their baby is almost here. But it's Candle we are talking about!!! He always seems to fall into it unintentionally!!! When a letter from Kareem arrives telling Candle that he needs to save Kareems brother, he is ready to bin it, but it plays on his mind constantly. He ends up having to go to Texas anyway so decides to drop by and see this guy, what's the harm?? Right!! Wrong, Candle once again finds himself caught up in the action and on the run from some trigger happy people!

There isn't much more I can say about the plot because with it being such a short story, I'll inadvertently spoil something, so all I'll say is that we get a few answers, more questions, plenty of action and adventure, more characters, more twists and turns and pretty much more of everything in this one. It's a fast paced, intense and addictive read. I loved book 1 and am pretty much hooked with this edition.

The author has a way with his words that will immediately grab you and not let go. His characters are all well fleshed out and developed. Candle especially has grown a lot since the first one. He isn't as naive as he was and is becoming quite the hero. Heskett also manages to throw in unexpected moments that I never saw coming. This is a story, that once you start, you won't want to put it down. Also the ending!!! I totally need book 3 to see what happens next. It's a cliffhanger that has left me wanting much more!!

In all, this is an action packed sequel, and indeed, an action packed series. The authors style has gotten me curious about his other works. I can see him becoming a firm favourite!

William Coon was fantastic, again! He has a wide range of voices and gives each character their own. He really brought the book to life and I hope he is narrating book 3!!

Bad Men and Dead Men

The Legend o Kareem is the middle book of the Whistleblower Trilogy, so fair warning, it's got a cliffhanger the size of Niagara Falls for an ending.
This is the story of a young, soon to be father's quest to wrap up his father's estate and fulfill a debt to a dead acquaintance which leads to murder, mayhem and an action packed roller coaster ride that just keeps coming at you. Violence, mayhem and mystery prevail but this is a story you won't soon forget.
If you're enjoy action-suspense stories with nasty villains and fearless heroes, this is one for you.

Narrator Kept It Interesting

You must stay with the complete series of 3 books. If not you will not enjoy the first as much as you could. Worth a listen, "I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Blast."
