About this listen

Brett Bohlinger has forgotten all about the list of life goals she’d written as a naïve teenager. In fact, at 34, Brett seems to have it all - a plum job at her family’s multimillion-dollar company and a spacious loft with her irresistibly handsome boyfriend. But when her beloved mother, Elizabeth, passes away, Brett’s world is turned upside down. Rather than simply naming her daughter the new CEO of Bohlinger Cosmetics, Elizabeth’s will comes with one big stipulation: Brett must fulfill the list of childhood dreams she made so long ago.

Grief-stricken, Brett can barely make sense of her mother’s decision. Some of her old hopes seem impossible. How can she possibly have a relationship with a father who died seven years ago? Other dreams (Be an awesome teacher!) would require her to reinvent her entire future. For each goal attempted, her mother has left behind a bittersweet letter, offering words of wisdom, warmth, and - just when Brett needs it - tough love. As Brett struggles to complete her abandoned life list, one thing becomes clear: sometimes life’s sweetest gifts can be found in the most unexpected places.

Loved the story

I loved the story. Not crazy about the narrator. I felt Brett was a bit wishy washy and self deprecating a lot of the time, but overall I enjoyed the story.

A Surprising Idea

You may decide that this book is either a sweet story about how a mother helped or manipulated her daughter. It is surprising that the mother put such a huge price on a life list that the daughter might not have wanted, but it is sincerely a story about how a mother's love can transcend death.

I recommend this book for those in search of a gentle and sweet read.

I was loving it until...

I can't believe the author could not take the time to find out what a "gelding" horse is. She calls a female horse a gelding. How stupid do you have to be to write a book and get a simple thing like that wrong. My pet peeve is authors who do not do their research and make huge stupid mistakes like this, it has ruined an otherwise amusing book halfway through! For those of you who are not horse people, a gelding is a MALE horse who has been surgically castrated.

Predictable twisty love story

Getting your life together with the help of your dead mother, well, it could happen and here's how. I liked Sankita and the Berbarry man best. it's a little hard to like the main character because she is so freaking dependant for the first half. then she is someone I would like to hang with. her voice sounds like Bays Mom on Switched at Birth.

Preposterous storyline

Would you try another book from Lori Nelson Spielman and/or Rebecca Gibel?

No.

Would you be willing to try another book from Lori Nelson Spielman? Why or why not?

Maybe, but I found this book to have such an silly story line that the next book would have to come highly rated for me to try it

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene where Brett finds out that the man in the Burberry coat is Dr. Taylor. Very predictable but satisfying nontheless

Was The Life List worth the listening time?

No.

Any additional comments?

At times the story was ridiculous. Some actions by characters were not believeable.
