Publisher's summary

As the Nazis march toward Paris in 1940, American ballerina Lucie Girard buys her favorite English-language bookstore to allow the Jewish owners to escape. Lucie struggles to run Green Leaf Books due to oppressive German laws and harsh conditions, but she finds a way to aid the resistance by passing secret messages between the pages of her books.

Widower Paul Aubrey wants nothing more than to return to the States with his little girl, but the US Army convinces him to keep his factory running and obtain military information from his German customers. As the war rages on, Paul offers his own resistance by sabotaging his product and hiding British airmen in his factory. After they meet in the bookstore, Paul and Lucie are drawn to each other, but she rejects him when she discovers he sells to the Germans. And for Paul to win her trust would mean betraying his mission.

Master of WWII-era fiction Sarah Sundin invites you onto the streets of occupied Paris to discover whether love or duty will prevail.

Amazing

I decided to read this book because it was the July Reading Challenge on Lisa Prysock’s FB group. I am so glad I did. The characters and story are amazing. I can’t wait to read (or listen to) more books by Sarah Sundin.

Incredible. Didn’t want it to end.

Another amazing story of war torn Europe by Sarah Sundin. Reads like today’s headlines of Ukraine’s invasion. Loved the characters and heart pumping action. Well done!

Another great book from Sarah Sundin

The narrator did a great job with the story. And Sarah Sundin has written another wonderful book that helps to educate the reader about WW 2, appreciate God's gifts in our lives, and interest the readers in the characters she creates.

Love this book!

Such a beautiful story. I fell in love with the characters and cannot imagine how much people went through during the war. This story brought life to what so many endured.

Highly recommended

Great writing, the storyline was full of all sorts of interesting and not well known information about the resistance in France. I so appreciated the authors attention to all the WW2 detail. I look forward to other books by Sundin. Great read, made me cry, and books never make me cry.

Sweet Historical WWII Romance

War is such a horrid thing, but these two Americans forge out a beautiful yet lonely life in Paris. When war threatens their friends and themselves, they fight back growing closer to each other as they resist through all means necessary. Their struggle to return to America is the most dramatic and emotional reunion I've ever read!
The narration was absolutely superb!

Wholesome

This audiobook story is one that could be shared with children while traveling in the car. It is history, but shared in a manner that skips all the foul language and unnecessary violenceand sexual details. It is just a good tale.

Excellent WW2 story from a unique perspective

It is rare to read a WW2 story where there is so little death, however, that did not take away from the tension. While the story was well written, the details about living under Nazi occupation in Paris were limited. Adding more information about life under Nazi occupation would have increased the tension in the book. Characters are well written. Some of the reviews said it was too churchy, I did not find this so. It stated that they went to church and addressed people shunning others at church but it did not preach at the reader.

A stunning novel of sacrifice and faith!

Sarah Sundin is my go-to author for World War II fiction, and she certainly doesn’t disappoint in this historical romance set in Paris prior to U.S. involvement in the war.

Sarah is known for her meticulous historical research and grounding readers in the time and place, but even more so she excels at writing raw, honest characters who become your friends and whose spiritual journey challenges and encourages your own.

I so enjoyed this read and didn’t want it to end. Highly recommended!
