About this listen
Divided into thirty-one chapters, one for each day of the month, the author breaks open the Gospels, particularly Matthew and Luke. As a biblical exegete, Fr. Amorth carefully analyzes the narratives of the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity of Christ, the visit of the Shepherds and Magi, the Presentation in the Temple, the Flight into Egypt, and the return of the Holy Family to Nazareth. From here, Mary lives in "silence" and "hiddenness," where she “kept all these things in her heart”; that is, her knowledge of what is coming – the "Hour," revealed at the Wedding in Cana, when she will witness the death of Christ on the cross and receive her role as Mother of all. But she is also the only one who knew what was coming after Good Friday, the only one of Christ’s followers who had hope on Good Saturday.
In addition to the Scriptures, Fr. Amorth explores ancient Marian titles and designations such as the New Eve, Ever-Virgin, the Mother of God, God-bearer (Theotokos), and All Holy. He explains the relatively recent Marian dogmas (with ancient roots) of the Immaculate Conception and Assumption. He also looks at popular devotions, such as keeping Holy Saturdays, Marian apparitions, the Rosary, and even what it means to be consecrated to her.
Intended to be catechetical, a series of reflections follows each chapter. Written in simple and clear language, the book is spiritually and theologically rich. Though the focus is on Mary, Fr. Amorth frequently reminds the reader that devotion to the Mother is to better know the Son. Published originally in Italian as Il Vangelo di Maria (The Gospel of Mary), this book is Fr. Amorth at his best.
About the author:
Fr. Gabriele Amorth was born in Modena, Italy, on May 1, 1925. He was ordained a Catholic priest in 1954 as a member of the Society of St. Paul, the congregation founded by Giacomo Alberione in 1914. He worked for thirty years as a journalist and editor for the Italian magazine Familia Cristiana and for the monthly Madre di Dio, for which he wrote numerous Marian articles. After working as a journalist, he was appointed an exorcist of the Diocese of Rome in June 1986, under the tutelage of Candido Amantini. In 1990, along with five other priests, he founded the International Association of Exorcists and was president until his retirement in 2000. Over the course of his career, Father Amorth is believed to have performed over 60,000 exorcisms. His work in demonology and exorcism, combined with his experience in media, gained him international recognition. As such, he became one of the most prominent figures in the Catholic Church in the modern era.

Fr. Gabriele Amorth is considered one of the most important figures in the Italian Catholic Church. Not only was he a renowned exorcist, he was a journalist, a noted theologian, and biblical exegete. The recent Hollywood film about his life (though highly embellished) has only added to his mystique. Behind the man was a powerful faith. He could not have performed exorcisms for thirty years without supernatural aid. Toward the end of his life, while retired in a rest home in Rome, he revealed his secret: the Rosary. For years, he had an unpublished book that he kept in a drawer of his cell ...

How would you describe your prayer life? Saint Paul urges Christians to: “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thess 5:17) Do you pray without ceasing? Do you thank God for a new day when you rise? Do you ask God to protect you and guide you throughout your day? Do you seek God’s wisdom and courage as you encounter challenges, trials, and opportunities. Do you beg God’s forgiveness when you rebel against him? Do you long to spend more time in the presence of the Lord? Do you praise the “lover of your soul” with your every breath? Story
My title explains itself. But it's misleading. There are more than 40 reasons. Each of my reasons is an independent point, so I have not organized this book by a succession of chapters or headings. After all, most people only remember a few big ideas or separate points after reading or listening to a book. I've never heard anyone say "Oh, that was a good continuous-process-of-logically-ordered-argumentation" but I've often heard people say, "Oh, that was a good point." And back to my main point: "Why are you a Catholic?" is a good question. A good question deserves a good answer.

"I remained, lost in oblivion; My face I reclined on the Beloved. All ceased and I abandoned myself, Leaving my cares forgotten among the lillies." Thus writes 16th century Spanish poet and mystic, St. John of the Cross. In this, his third work, the author reflects on the nature of a personal union with Christ, found in the abandonment of self.

Padre Pio of Pietrelcina is perhaps the single most extraordinary saint in the modern history of the Catholic Church. His heart was pierced. He carried the wounds of Christ on his hands, feet, and side for half a century. He communicated with his spiritual sons and daughters through bilocation and mystical perfume. He read the souls of his penitents. He offered his suffering so that others might be healed. He built one of the most significant hospitals in Southern Italy. Most importantly, Padre Pio wanted others to be redeemed. In Bret Thoman’s latest book, he has created a fresh, new ...

The Diary is an amazing narrative that chronicles the experiences of a simple, uneducated Polish nun who received a special call shortly before the outbreak of World War II. Our Lord appeared to her and instructed her to spread the message of his Divine Mercy to all, especially in our current age, which is full of so much distress and worldliness. The message of the Divine Mercy is that God loves us all of us. And He wants us to recognize that his mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon him with trust, receive his mercy, and let it flow through us to others.

Story
St. Veronica Giuliani (1660-1727) is considered one of the most extraordinary mystics in the history of Christianity. A Poor Clare nun, she was a stigmatic who offered her many mystical sufferings for others. After fifty years in a monastery, where she served as abbess and novice directress, she ended her life essentially divinized. And yet, even though numerous popes have extolled her virtues, St. Veronica Giuliani is little known outside her native region and Capuchin Order. Now, for the first time ever, a compendium of her Diary has been translated into English. While all saints are ...

Story
In the late 19th century, Father Charles Arminjon, a priest from the mountains of southeastern France, assembled his flock in the town cathedral to preach a series of conferences to help them turn their thoughts away from this life's mean material affairs - and toward the next life's glorious spiritual reward. His wise and uncompromising words deepened in them the spirit of recollection that all Christians must have: the abiding conviction that heavenly aims, not temporal enthusiasms, must guide everything we think, say, and do.
